This first-ever major exhibition tells how this Budapest-born poet, diarist, and author of the hymn Eli, Eli discovered her love for the Land of Israel, courageously volunteered for a mission to rescue downed Allied fliers and Jews from Nazi-occupied Hungary, and ultimately became a lasting symbol of courage and determination. Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Exhibition at Chicago City Hall Weekends 11 AM - 4 PM Ticket sales and final admissions end one hour before closing. Directions On April 17, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel unveiled a special exhibition on the 5th floor of City Hall paying tribute to the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto uprising. The exhibition contains biographies of the leaders of the uprising and Chicago area survivors. The exhibition is curated by the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center with contributions from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and is a presentation of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The Museum's 2013 Power of One Award recipient Katherine Chon will share her inspirational story about how she co-founded Polaris Project, an organization dedicated to ending human trafficking and modern day slavery. LEED Gold Certification On April 19 a plaque unveiling ceremony was held in honor of the Museum receiving the United States Green Building Council's LEED Gold Certification. We are proud to be just the second museum in the Chicago area to receive this distinguished recognition since the Field Museum received the designation in 2000.
