Introduction
PostNL is pleased to provide you with advice regarding all
your international direct mail activities. To make your direct
mail campaign a success, you need to reach the right target
group. A carefully selected address list is therefore essential.
The use of a correct address and postcode structure is also
important. This brochure is intended to help you use the
correct address details per country.
Using the tables:

Countries are listed in an alphabetical order.
Address example
By using the correct addressing method, you prevent any
irritation on the part of the receiver and you increase the
attention value of your mailings. Mail items are sorted automatically by a growing number of postal services. You can prevent
mail handling delays by using addresses correctly and by using
the correct postcode.
The address type differs per country. The structure of the
address, the position and the number of postcode characters
depend on national customs and automated systems. In this
brochure, you can find information on:

The information provided in this brochure is taken from the
coordinating body of postal services, the Universal Postal Union,
and includes details provided by the 189 member countries.
PostNL accepts no liability with respect to the correctness and
completeness of these details. Several countries have not made
any details available. For the sake of completeness, these
country names are listed in the brochure.
The description of each character (or character group) of the
postcode to be used for the respective country. The number of
characters, their positions and any separators.
The example address as provided by the local postal service is
inclusive of the preferred spacing, postcode and use of hyphens
and capitals.

Points of focus:
• When addressing your mail items, you can write the
destination country either in Dutch or in English;
• Write the town/city and the destination country in full and in
capitals;
• We advise against underlining the destination country, for
reasons of automatic handling;
• State a Dutch sender’s address (compulsory for bulk mail);
• Designations like the Priority sticker are to be affixed on the
address side of the envelope below or directly next to the
sender’s address.

The preferred addressing method is included in the table for the
respective country.
If you use the ‘Postage Paid’ designation, the frame needs to be at least 300mm².
