EC St James’ News
17th September 2015
Welcome Back!
Welcome back to everyone! and welcome to our new
Reception Class parents! It is lovely to see the
children back at school in their new uniform. Thank
you to all parents and carers for ensuring the school
uniform policy is adhered to.
During the summer holidays there have been many
more improvements to the school, predominantly to
the main entrance and offices. The newly refurbished
entrance area allows easy access to the school office
for
enquiries
whilst
improving
safeguarding
procedures for allowing visitors into school. We also
have new fencing around Reception Class’ outdoor
area and further work is taking place at the rear of Key
Stage One to further enhance our outdoor provision.
Our newly formed Federation Governing Body is now
in place and we are very pleased to have two Parent
Governors representing St James’ - Mr John
Mainwaring and Mrs Samantha Kershaw. They are
both also members of our Friends Of ECSJ Group
and can be contacted through the school office, via
the Friends Group’s meetings/website or out in the
playground. A full list of Governors can be found on
our School Website – www.st-james.oldham.sch.uk
Our Friends of ECSJ Group (PTA) will be meeting for
the first time on Monday 5th October and would
welcome new and ‘old’ parents at 9am in the
staffroom.
A full list of diary dates is attached to this newsletter
but I would like to draw your attention to our first
‘events’ in school – our English Consultant will be
leading a Reading Workshop next Tues & Weds for all
parents to pick up tips on helping your child with their
reading a home – see Mrs Peacock’s letter to book a
place. Our Macmillian Coffee Morning is next Friday
(25th) – come and join us for coffee and cake in the
school hall at 9am. We are very proud of the way our
children show their support towards worthy causes
and, through your attendance and a non-uniform
collection, we hope to raise as much as possible.
Our first service in school will be our Harvest Festival
which will take place on Wednesday 30th September.
ALL children in school will be taking part in our
celebration of thanksgiving. You are most welcome to
join us at 9.05am in the School Hall.

Always reward system
We have a set of Golden Promises for our children to
follow:
1. We always show respect for everyone in our
school.
2. We always do as we are asked first time.
3. We always look after our own property and
that of others.
4. We always behave in a way that allows us and
others to learn and do our best.
5. We always think about the health and safety of
others when moving around school.
By following these promises, the children move up a
chart in their classroom. When they reach the top they
receive a badge from Mr Laskey, Mrs Peacock or Mrs
Stanworth. If they break any of the promises they
have to return their badge to one of these teachers.
Behaviour can then be discussed with the child. You
as parents and carers will be able see if your child has
behaved. If your child keeps their badge all year they
will receive a gold star in recognition of this during the
last assembly of the year.
