Open Division (scouts/parents/siblings):

4 The overall length of the car shall not exceed 7 inches.
5 The overall width of the car shall not exceed 2 ¾ inches.
6 The car must have 1 ¾” clearance between the wheels.
7 The car must have 3/8” clearance underneath the body.
8 The Axles locations cannot be modified. This includes
adding wood to the front of the car to “move the axles back”
9 The wood provided in the kit must be used. The block
may be shaped any way that is desired.
10 The wheels supplied with the kit must be used or wheels
from the BSA STORE ONLY. The wheels may not be cut,
drilled, beveled or rounded. You may remove the seam
from the wheels.
11 The axles supplied with the kit must be used. They
may be polished or lubricated.
12 Wheel bearings, washers or bushings are prohibited.
13 The car must not ride on any type of springs.
14 The car must be freewheeling, with no starting devices.
15 No loose material of any kind, such as lead shot,

16 Cars that were purchased completed may not be used.

17 Height: Depending upon the track, the front of the car
may rest against a short starting pin. Therefore the front

If you want to race but can’t attend at your specific
time you may check-in your car at an earlier time.

Pinewood Derby Rules
1 Each boy is to do his best in building his car.
He should design it, sand it, and paint or decorate
it as he sees fit. Adult help is needed in shaping
the car and attaching the wheels.
2 Cars built in prior years are not permitted.
