Commander’s Report
Cdr Larry Samuels, SN
Holiday
Greetings to all.
I now have
been home
two weeks
following eleven days in the hospital as
a result of two heart attacks. Needless
to say, I now have new appreciation for
family and friends. Thank all of you who
inquired and expressed concern.
I understand the Dec.5 Christmas Party was a success, as
usual. I’m sorry I missed it. I’m looking forward to the Jan. 6
meeting and hearing Jack Banister talk about the Portugal’s
Prince Henry Navigation School, for which the USPS Prince
Henry Award is named. As reported last month, that award
was presented to LSPS for Outstanding Progress in Junior
Navigation last year.
The USPS Annual meeting will be held in Orlando Fl. Jan 31Feb. 5, Maureen and I plan to attend, and encourage others to
consider attendance. (note the first 3 days are closed meeting,
the open meetings are Feb 2-5. For more information go to
www.USPS.org , scroll down to Annual Meeting Adv, and
click on “more information”.
I plan to start a Navigation course in Jan. 2011. The course
has thirteen chapters plus a practice examination, an
examination, and a seven body sight folder. So allowing
for some other obligations requiring skipping some weeks,
the course will take 4 - 6 months. It will be held on Monday
or Tuesday evenings, location to be determined. One must
have completed the prerequisite P, AP, and JN before taking
Navigation. Cost is $150. Please email me at EagleLGS@aol.
com if you wish to take the “N” course.

The next civil service event for LSPS will be our participation in the Louisville Boat, RV., & Sports Show that will run from Jan.26 thru the 30th at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
Thanks to those who signed up at the Christmas Party. For those who did not have the opportunity to
sign up you can call me 228-0712 or call Ed Ice our Boat Show chairman at 241-7293. We need everyone’s
support for this effort.
We will also be participating in the National Houseboat Expo March 12th,19th,20th.and will again need
everyone’s help in this endeavor.
On Dec the 9th I had the opportunity to meet with our new mayor-elect Greg Fisher’s transition team to
discuss boating related activities and how the LSPS could be involved. The new Mayor is planning on
some type of waterfront activity for Memorial Day celebration and would like the LSPS to be involved.
I want to thank Lee and Carol Harris, Kim Fisher, Alan Roles and Allen Gailor who also were in attendance representing the LSPS. I will be talking more about the in the months to come.
Welcome to the
Party

Hello Fellow Boater’s,
I want to say thanks to everyone that attended the 2010 LSPS Christmas Party
at the Kingfish on River Road. A very special thanks to Carol Fisher for a
wonderful job as event chairperson, and for getting the gifts for games and
door prizes. As always the Kingfish did an excellent job with the service, buffet,
and appetizers. As 2010 comes to an end I want to say Merry Christmas and
Happy New Year to all of our membership. I look forward to seeing everyone in 2011.
