When Jesus arrived Lazarus had been in a tomb for four days and many had come to comfort them. Jesus wept for he loved Lazarus. Then Jesus told them to open the tomb. He said in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”, and the dead man appeared with the grave cloths still on his body. (John 11: 1-45) Jesus asks. “Do you believe that I give you eternal life?” The Catholic faith has always had a strong conviction about heaven. It’s one of the reasons why we have so many saints: people who help us to live with a daily awareness of the reality of heaven. PLEASE KEEP IN YOUR PRAYERS Please remember to keep families of our school and parish community in your thoughts and prayers throughout the holidays and those who may have members of their family suffering from serious illness or sickness. SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES This Week: No Assembly SHPPS CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL Children in Years 3-6 will participate in our SHPPS Cross Country Carnival at the Memorial Oval this Friday, 7th April (last day of term) commencing at 1:30p.m. The students will have an early lunch at school before they walk to the oval. Canteen facilities will be available and children are reminded to bring any medications (e.g. puffers, epi-pens etc.) to school to take with them to the oval. Everyone is welcome to come along and cheer for the children and their House Team. Students are required to wear their correct school sports uniform on this day. School is as usual for children in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2. Infant students wear their school sports uniform to school and will be dismissed at 3:30p.m. as usual. HOLY WEEK Lord, we pray for all our beloved family who have died and now live with you. Amen. SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION Children in Year 3 and above who are baptised Catholics are welcome to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. Parents are asked to contact the Parish Office (80873198) to enroll their child/children for the Sacrament of Confirmation. With Easter fast approaching a number of children will be participating in the celebration of Parish Masses during Holy Week (1st week of the school holidays). Holy Week is a special time in the Church’s year. On Holy Thursday, 13th April at 7:00p.m. in the Cathedral, we will celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. During this Mass, Jesus’ last supper with his disciples is commemorated. Just as Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, Bishop Columba will wash the feet of representatives from our Parish including our School Captains. Also during this Mass, all students attending this Mass from our school will take up the school’s Project Compassion Box containing all the donations the students have made during the weeks of Lent. It would be appreciated if all students attending this Mass wear their full summer uniform. This money will be sent to Caritas Australia to assist those in need of food, shelter, water and clothing. Many thanks to all the students for their generosity in making donations throughout Lent towards Project Compassion this year. Holy Week is still the season of Lent. Students will learn about the events of Holy Week in the topics covered in Sharing Our Story. It is not appropriate or the responsibility of the school to provide the Easter Triduum for the students and their families during Holy Week. Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil are to be celebrated in the parish church with the parish community on the appropriate day. Parents and their child/children are encouraged to participate in these parish celebrations. Schools are requested not to ritualise the Easter Triduum but may pray and enact the Stations of the Cross. Therefore, it is not appropriate to hold Easter Parades or Easter Raffles during Holy Week. These activities are to be held after the celebration of the Easter Triduum during the Easter season. An invitation is extended to all families to attend the Masses and ceremonies throughout Holy Week. EASTER PARADE We will be holding an Easter Hat Parade next term on Thursday, 27th April during our normal Assembly time to celebrate the Easter season. Students are asked to make and wear an Easter Hat to wear during our Parade. Students are able to wear casual clothes on this day. Parents are welcome to attend our Parade which will commence at 12:45p.m. in Marcellin Hall. WINTER UNIFORM Students are required to wear the WINTER UNIFORM next term. The approved items include the woollen Vneck jumper, long sleeve blue shirt and black lace-up shoes for girls and boys. A reminder that the formal full winter uniform needs to be purchased and worn on formal occasions. The optional part of the uniform (woollen V-neck vest and girl’s pants) can be worn when there is not a formal occasion. I ask for your support in assisting the school to ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform and only write notes explaining variations to their uniform when no other option exists. Your co-operation is sought in purchasing the approved items. NAPLAN TESTS The National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be conducted for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 in all government and non-government schools. The tests will be conducted across Australia on the same days for all students according to the following timetable: Tuesday 9th May – Language Convention test (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and a separate Writing test. Wednesday 10th May – Reading test Thursday, 11th May – Numeracy test (Number, Algebra, Function and Pattern; Chance and Data; Measurement and Space) Friday 12th May – Catch Up Day For more information about these tests please contact your child’s teacher. ANZAC DAY MARCH I am seeking children who will be able to represent the school at the Anzac Day March on Tuesday, 25th April (Second day of Term 2). Children attending this parade will need to wear their full formal winter uniform. A note with more information will be sent home today and you are asked to return the permission note to school before Friday, 7th April if your child is able to participate. Your assistance and attendance at this special celebration for our country and soldiers who have fought for our freedom will be greatly appreciated. SCHOOL FEES As you can appreciate the school relies on the school fees to pay for the general running costs of the school. Fees can be paid off at any time in full or by instalments throughout the year. PARENT GROUP MEETING The next Parent Group Meeting will take place on Thursday, 27th April at 7:30p.m. in the Admin Meeting Room. All parents are invited to attend.
