We have recently been reviewing how we weigh and record young people’s weights. And we would like to make you aware of the following: Young people will continue to be weighed termly. However this will now be during a swimming session. This is to minimise the dressing/undressing and general manual handling required. In addition this will reduce the impact on the young person’s school day to address medical needs. The weight will be more accurate as it will be classed as a naked weight rather than using a formula to calculate the weight of clothes. School staff will monitor that this has happened. The weights will be recorded, as currently, in the school database. In future the nurse supporting the dietician’s clinic will have accessed the school database in advance of the clinic to get the individual’s weight. The weight will also be recorded in the home school book by the TAs for parental information, if requested. Please be aware that if parents want an ongoing record they will need to transfer this information into their own documents as the home school book is retained by school as evidence for Ofsted etc for a period of time. A checklist has now been developed as to the information the dietician requires. The nurse will collate and forward this information to the dietician a week in advance, excluding unforeseen circumstances. In addition, school staff will send the nursing team the current weights each term. School staff will highlight to the nursing team any loss of weight. The nursing team will be alerted that the weights have been done and it will be their responsibility to go into the data base to review the exact changes. Dear Parents/Carers Firstly I would like to welcome two new pupils who have both joined the Pre School Primary Department this term and I’m looking forward to getting to know them and their families over the coming months. I had a successful meeting with a good number of parents this week regarding the new curriculum we are currently developing. I have taken the constructive feedback I have received back to my team and will now be working with the therapists on how to integrate our planning even further. Please do take the time to look at the school news on the website www.chf.org.uk/school-news which is updated weekly, and is a great place to find out what has been going on across the departments. We are also in the process of developing department galleries on the website, which should be up and running shortly. If you would like to give any feedback or questions on the news items, galleries or the website in general please email web [email protected] We hope our above revised system will support parents better and reduce the tasks prior to a clinic. I am pleased to announce the weekend dates for the Summer Term. Please note the sessions will run from 2:00-3:00pm Child protection and safeguarding young adults has lamentably been making regular appearances in the news lately and serves as a sad reminder that undesirable acts or omissions take place affecting vulnerable children and young adults. However, if you have any concerns please do contact any member of the trained Child Protection and Young Adult Safeguarding Team at Chailey Heritage Foundation: Simon Yates: Designated Lead for Child Protection and Adult Safeguarding for Chailey Heritage Foundation Richard Green: Designated Child Protection lead for Chailey Heritage School Mandy Mason Denise Banks: Designated Lead for Adult Safeguarding for Chailey Heritage Foundation Claire Bailey: Designated Child Protection Lead for Chailey Heritage Residential You can talk or pass your concern on to any member of the team, and there will always be at least one member of the Child Protection and Adult Safeguarding Team available to talk to. We are hoping that a new system for sending electronic communications will be in place in the very near future. Meanwhile, please continue to check your child’s bag regularly for letters sent home. A little reminder …… should you remain on site following the delivery of your child to school, please remember to sign in at reception. As is usual procedure, this should also be done when visiting at other times throughout the day. An exception to this rule is when attending Annual Reviews which are held in the Rennie Building, where you will be asked to sign in on your arrival.
