Decide if the sentence is correct or incorrect. If correct
make a bid!

How to play
1. Put the students into groups of 4 or 5 depending on the class size.
2. Explain that each group will compete with the other groups to bid for
correct sentences from the list. The team who buys the most correct sentences
with their £1000 pounds wins.
3. Explain that some sentences are grammatically correct and some are not.
Get the students in each group to quietly decide which sentences they feel are
correct or wrong. They mustn’t let the other groups know which questions
are really worth betting on or not.
4. For each correct sentence tell each group to decide how much they are
prepared to pay. Of course when the bidding starts this amount may change
but it is just to think about the budget.
5. Explain that bids start at £25 pounds and increase by the same amount. So if
the first bid is £25 the next will be £50 then £75 etc.
6. The teacher reads out the first sentence and welcomes any bids. The team
that succeeds in buying the sentence must subtract the amount they paid from
their £1000 pounds.
7. After each sentences has been bought the teacher can tell the winning
group and class if the sentence was in fact right or wrong underlining where
necessary the mistake.
