Phosphite (PO3) Equivalency
Fosetyl-Al (CHIPCO® SIGNATURE™) was the first phosphite (PO3) fungicide
and it has established a major following as a high performing disease control product. In
recent years a profusion of “Me Too” PO3’s have emerged both as fungicides and
“nutrients” and close scrutiny will reveal that many of these product labels virtually
duplicate the Fosetyl-Al labels on the basis of equivalent concentration of the PO3 ions in
the formulated spray. While other products simply suggest that they are equivalent to
Fosetyl-Al but do not provide adequate composition statements to provide proper
comparison. BIOPHOS® and MEGA-PHOS® are based upon unique, patented
technology that is best viewed as a New Generation PO3 product. The fertilization and
fungicide patents are based upon true synergy of PO3 and PO4. Synergistic activity
generates greater activity and broader spectrum of disease prevention. This synergy has
been demonstrated in greenhouse and field trials not only by ECO-RIGHT LLC, but also
in university programs. Much of the physiological/biochemical pathways are currently
under intensive university/private investigation; therefore, current explanations are often
scientifically logical and obvious but will require further verification. As an example
when BIOPHOS®/MEGA-PHOS® is tested for Pythium control and are compared to
Fosetyl-Al, biological activity appears as follows:

This performance is consistently evident in university trials. Thus BIOPHOS® rates are
equivalent in PO3 content to the market standard but superior in biological performance
to most currently commercial PO3 products. PO3/PO4 synergy enhances the biological
performance in many fashions.
The ECO-RIGHT products are the only products that contain both PO3 and PO4. These
are delivered in the form of K2PO4 and K2PO3. So what benefits do the combination of
K2PO4 and K2PO3 provide which separate this proprietary combination from the
numerous similar, non P04-containing competitors?

PO4…is theorized to delay oxidation of PO3 due to Competitive Inhibition, in
which PO3 oxidizing microorganisms are tied up by the PO4 and cannot attack the

The following Table provides a chemical analysis for further comparisons of PO3 content.
A critical factor to consider is that it is desirable to have a maximum tolerant level of PO3
maintained in the plant. While the quantity of delivered PO3 is extremely important the
longevity of the PO3 molecule within the plant significantly influences residual
performance. BIOPHOS®/MEGA-PHOS® delivers optimal levels of PO3 and current
research strongly suggests that the enhanced performance is partially attributable to
longevity of the PO3 ion.
Also in reviewing the following table please consider that BIOPHOS®/MEGA-PHOS®
is only compared directly with Fosetyl-Al. Many of the generic PO3 products simply do
not define their products adequately such that meaningful PO3 comparisons cannot be
