The common goals of these two societies are: 1. To follow the mission and practice the principals of the American Rose Society. 2. To promote the culture and appreciation of the rose. 3. Foster the interest to the public in rose horticulture through educational programs, community events, rose shows, and publications. 4. Educate and encourage the residents of our community to grow roses. 5. Offer our community the best information and practices for growing roses with ease and effectiveness. The Santa Fe Rose Society is responsible for the beautification and maintenance of the Harvey Cornell Rose Garden. Our society has partnered with the Santa Fe Master Gardener Association and the City of Santa Fe Parks Division to preserve the beauty and character of the garden. The garden is open to the public and is located at the corner of Galisteo and Cordova Road. The Santa Rose Society offers free and open meetings to the public on the first Tuesday of the month. Three Rose Garden Clinics will also be offered in the spring and summer. Schedule of Community Events at the Harvey Cornell Rose Garden Rose Clinic, April 8th. Correct pruning procedures. Information on the basic logic and reasons for pruning. Instruction 9:009:30 AM, Hands-on pruning at the garden 9:30 to noon. Bring hand held pruners, gloves and long sleeve clothing. Rose Clinic, July 8th, How to dead head roses properly. Instruction 9:00-9:30 AM. Removal of spent blooms at the garden 9:30 to noon. Bring hand held pruners, gloves and long sleeve clothing. Rose Clinic, August 5th, How to fertilize and prepare the roses for winter. Instruction 9:00-9:30 AM. Fertilization of the roses at the garden 9:30 to noon. Bring hand held trowel/cultivator, gloves and long sleeve clothing. 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Harvey Cornell Rose Garden. June 17th, 9:00 to Noon. Public view of the garden (9:00-10:30) Celebration events commence at 10:30. Celebration information can be found at City of Santa Fe website, local nurseries, and the Santa Fe Rose Society Facebook page. These events are in a public garden. Please, no small children should be working in the garden and do not bring your pets. Please bring your own water to stay hydrated. Parking space is limited, so please carpool.
