Parking is provided on site. Please park in the specific
event parking area. Turn left as you enter the park
gates.

Parc Bryn Bach is situated just off the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road.
Visitors should follow signs for Tredegar and once you are off the A465
follow the brown tourism signs for Parc Bryn Bach. If you’re lucky enough to
have a Sat Nav, just enter the postcode: NP22 3AY.
The 2016 Swim Wales Open Water Squad will be selected from results at
the 2016 Swim Wales Open Water Championships on 2nd July 2016.
An Open Water Squad will be selected to help with the Development of
Open Water training and racing. Details of training and racing opportunities
will be released once the squad has been selected.

Event Information
Elite Swimmers (Male and Female):
Ages 12-14 1500m non-wetsuit race (lake/air temperature permitting)
Ages 15-16 3000m non-wetsuit race (lake/air temperature permitting)
Ages 17 and over 5000m non-wetsuit race (lake/air temperature
permitting)
Please note: a decision to swim non-wetsuit races will be made on the day
based on water and air temperatures. We may deem the races unsuitable
for non-wetsuit and swimmers will not be able to swim unless wearing a
wetsuit under any circumstances. Please come equipped to swim with
wetsuits if necessary.
The event will finish with an Open Swim event, open to all swimmers.
Open Swimmers (Male and Female):
750m & 1500m wetsuit race – Cut off time 30 minutes for 750m and 60
minutes for 1500m
Swimmers who complete the Open Event will receive a commemorative gift.
All swimmers for all events must attend a safety
briefing prior to their race. Failure to attend will
result in a withdrawal from the swim.

Event Conditions

All competitors must be a current registered member of Swim Wales, ASA or SASA for all non-wetsuit
races. Competitors entering the wetsuit races must be registered with Swim Wales, ASA, SASA or
Welsh Triathlon. Alternatively a day membership can be purchased for £5.

Swim Wales reserves the right to limit entries dependent on demand.

Entry fee: £10 per race.

Elite Age group distances are: Girls & Boys: 12-14 yrs – 1.5km; 15-16 yrs – 3000m (3km); 17 & over –
5000m (5km).

Open Swim distances are : Girls & Boys: 14 and under – 750m; 15 and over 1500m

Ages as at 31st December 2016.

Times must have been achieved since 1st July 2015 and the event closing date.

Medals will be awarded to the first 3 Welsh male and female swimmers in each age group.

Commemorative awards will be given to the first 3 non-Welsh male and female swimmers.

A cut off time off time limit of 30 minutes after the first swimmer in each competition has finished
shall operate in the non-wetsuit races. Cut off times for wetsuit races will be: 30 minutes 750m and 60
minutes 1500m.

Swimmers MUST sign in at the registration desk and attend the race briefing at the appropriate time.

Any swimmer not attending the briefing will NOT be allowed to swim.

Competitors must have their number displayed on their back or upper arm AND WEAR THE WRIST
BAND AND SWIM CAP PROVIDED.

No swimmer shall be permitted to use or wear any device, which may aid their endurance, buoyancy
or speed. Goggles, ear plugs or nose clips may be used. Only one costume is allowed. Costumes must
comply with FINA Open Water rules.

Swimmers shall be allowed to use grease or other substances providing these are not deemed as
excessive, in the opinion of the Referee.

 Entry costs: £10 per race.
 Minimum entry qualifying times apply based on long course pool qualifying times
for non-wetsuit races. Cut off times are in place for open events. 750m – 30
minutes / 1500m – 60 minutes.
 Male competitors entering the Elite Age group distances require either a 1500m
OR 400 IM time.
 Female competitors entering the Elite Age group distances require either a 800m
OR 400 IM time.
 Times must have been achieved since 1st July 2015 and the event closing date.
