Deployment Options
Single-User Deployment
Multiple-User Server Deployment
CEI recommends Single-User deployment for those
sites that do not plan to connect ELS, MLS, or SVE to a
local area network (LAN). In a Single-User deployment,
users must install all executable, data, and resource
files for both the management system — the CEI
Learning Manager (CLM), MLS Student Manager (MSM),
or Science Vocabulary Manager (SVM) — and the
student player application on each individual station
they plan to use.
Sites that have a LAN may opt to implement the
Multiple-User Server deployment to allow for greater
flexibility. The Multiple-User deployment allows you to
manage all student data from a central location, making
the program more versatile.
In a Single-User environment, students must always
use the same station to access their particular lessons.
If, for some reason, a student cannot use his designated
computer, the teacher must enter that student’s
information in the management system on a new
workstation. The student must use the new computer
to access the player application from that point forward.
In a Single-User environment, there is no way to transfer
the student’s data from machine to machine. Therefore,
you cannot consolidate the student information or
lesson progress information from multiple workstations
into one record.
In a Multiple-User installation, users install the
management system on one workstation. That
computer becomes the teacher workstation, and the
teacher(s) perform(s) all data management from that
station. The teacher workstation should be placed
in a central location so that all teachers who use the
software will be able to access the management system
to make the necessary lesson modifications and view
students’ lesson history.
You will install the student player application for your
program(s) on all remaining stations. The student data
is located on the server, and all the player stations can
access it there.

Supplemental Software
ADOBE
FLASH PLAYER
QuickTime is the core service
that displays our images and
sound files. The ELS, MLS,
and SVE software will not run
without this application.
Access to the
Web Activity Center (WAC)
requires the installation of
Adobe Flash Player.
We publish all of our documentation — including our
User’s Guides — in .pdf format.
Adobe Reader will allow you
to view these documents.

Mac users may use Apple’s
Preview software included on
the Mac to view .pdf files.
