Questions
Respond to the following questions using Ehrenreich and Hochschild’s article on women and economics:
1. What has caused an increase in females from the Third World (e.g. developing) countries immigrating to
other countries particularly First World (e.g. developed) countries?
a. Consider the following: Why are governments of Third World countries encouraging women to
migrate for domestic jobs?
2. What are the four main ‘flows’ of immigrants from poorer to richer countries?
3. Discuss the positive and negative aspects faced by female immigrants working in another country?
4. Do you believe that the globalization of women’s traditional roles is related to gender and economic
inequity? Why or why not?
