Yikes, where has February gone! I do realize that this week is still in the month of February,
but as I am typing up this newsletter I have been taking advantage of some down time during
conferences and doing some long term planning and looking at what’s ahead. It seems as
though once we pass the second PT conference the school year really flies.
I was very happy to get to talk with those of you who came to conferences. I get very excited
to share with you the gains I see your children making in the classroom both academically and
emotionally. Since August we have come a long long way as a class!
This week we will be wrapping up our unit in Math on solid shapes. On Monday each child
has been asked to bring in a rectangular prism. (just like a cube but 4 long sides and 2 short
sides. If you came to conferences you had a chance to look at our 3-D Shape Museum
located on the newly moved shelving outside our classroom. This has attracted quite the
attention as classes pass in the hallway and these little Kindergarteners and feeling pretty
proud to have been responsible for it’s making. Thank you for the crazy hunts for solid shapes
each evening;-)
We will begin a short unit on how to tell time to the hour and then begin learning about
subtraction.
This week we will also finish our Science experiment about the different forms of water. This
also has been a real hit. If you haven’t heard your child heard the words evaporation, water
vapor, gas, solid, or liquids ask them about it. They have become quite the experts.
We will have a visit from the wonderful folks from Growing Smiles Dentistry on Monday. They
will talk about the importance of teeth brushing, flossing and eating healthy things to keep
teeth healthy. This is always a treat during February which is dental health month.
Lastly, I just want to continue to stress how important it is to have your child work on sight
words and read with you in the evening. Getting into this habit and spending 15-20 mins total
can completely change how well your child performs in reading. It gives them that extra one
on one time needed.
Have a great week!
Debbie
