As this is a religious place, we would also ask you to avoid inappropriate clothing or chewing gum during the service. Many thanks for your consideration in following our communal minhag-traditions. If you are a doctor or trained first aider please make yourself known to the wardens and beadle. 2 SHABBAT CHOL HA-MO’ED PESACH On the Shabbat during Passover, we are reminded of the age-old desire to know the Eternal One. Moses implores the Eternal One to let him see God. While the Eternal One will not allow Moses to see Adonai’s face, the Eternal One tells Moses, “I will make My goodness pass before you…" Perhaps we experience the divine presence through the goodness we create in the world. The Torah then sets forth the thirteen attributes of God, among them that the Eternal One is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. By emulating these very attributes, we create the goodness which allows us to know the Eternal One. 3 EXODUS 13:3-10 ,h´¥Cn¦ Æo¦hr¸©m§ N¦ n¦ o³¤,tm̈§h r¤̧J£t Æv¤Zv© oI³HvÎ, © t¤ rIº fz̈ ogÀ̈ v̈Îkt¤ vJ« ¤¹ n rnt ¤ «¸H©ud º¦ g oIHv© s :.«n¥ j̈ k¥fẗ«¥h t¬«ku§ v·¤Zn¦ o¤f,§ t¤ v²Ïv§h th¯¦mIv sº̈h e¤z«j́C§ hF¦µ ohsc̈£ v hb¦Â£g«©bF§ v«©Â .r´¤ ¤ tÎkt¤ v¿ü«vh§ Ẃ£th«c§ ¦ hÎh«f¦ v´ḧv̈u§ :ch«c¦ ẗ«v̈ Js«¤jC§ oh·¦tm«« § h o´¤Tt© ,¬©cz̈ .r²¤ ¤t Q¨kº ,¤,́¨k ÆWh¤̧,«ct £«©k g³©CJ¦ § b r¤̧J£t hxUc§ À¦ hv© u§ h´¦Uj«© ¦ vu§ hr«¹¦nt ¡ v̈« u§ h¸¦Tj«© ¦ vu§ u k´©ft«T oh¦nḧ ,¬© gc§ J¦ :v«Z¤v© Js«¬ ¤jC© ,t«Zv© v¬s̈«c£gv̈« Î,t¤ ²T̈s§ c« © g̈u§ J·c̈sU§ c¨kj̈ z oh·¦nḦv© ,´© gc§ J¦ ,¥t kf¥º ẗ«¥h Æ,IMn© :v«Ïvh©k d©j hgh º¦ c¦ X§ v© ÆoIHcU © ,«·Mn© j oI¬HC© W§ º bc§¦ k ´T̈s© § Dv¦ u§ :W«¤kcªDÎkf̈ § C§ r«t G§ W§² k v¬¤tr̈«¥hÎt«ku§ .n¥À j̈ W§¹k v¤̧tr̈«¥hÎt«ku§ y ,It§¹ k ÆW§k Ávḧv̈u§ :o¦hr«¨m§ N¦ n¦ h¦,t¥mC§ hk¦º ÆvÏv§h v³G̈g̈ vÀz¤ rUć£gC«© r«·nt¥k tUv v© vez̈£ º̈ j śḧC§ hF¦µ Wh·¦pC§ vÏv§h ,¬© rIT v²¤hv§ T«¦ ig© n§ ©À k Whºb¤h¥g ih´¥C ÆiIrF̈z§¦ kU WÀ s«§ ḧÎkg© oh¦nḦn¦ V·s̈£gIn§« k ,t«Zv© vE¬¨j«© ªvÎ,t¤ ²T̈r§n« © J̈u§h :o¦hr«¨m§ N¦ n¦ vÏv§h W¬ t £ mIv «¦ :vn̈hnḧ «¦ EXODUS 13:3-10 And Moses said to the people, “Remember this day, on which you went free from Egypt, the house of bondage, how Adonai freed you from it with a mighty hand: no leavened bread shall be eaten. 4You go free on this day, in the month of Abib. 5So, when Adonai has brought you into the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which God swore to your ancestors to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall observe in this month the following practice: 6“Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a festival of God. 7Throughout the seven days unleavened bread shall be eaten; no leavened bread shall be found with you, and no leaven shall be found in all your territory. 8And you shall explain to your son on that day, ‘It is because of what Adonai did for me when I went free from Egypt.’ 9“And this shall serve you as a sign on your hand and as a reminder on your forehead —in order that the Teaching of Adonai may be in your mouth—that with a mighty hand Adonai freed you from Egypt. 10You shall keep this institution at its set time from year to year. 3 SONG OF SONGS 2:1-17 I am the rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. Like a lily among thorns, so is my love among the maidens. Like the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among young men. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. Sustain me with raisins, comfort me with apples; for I am sick with love. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me. I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles or by the hinds of the field, that you stir not up, nor awake my love, until it please. The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills. My beloved is like a gazelle or a young hart; Behold, he stands behind our wall, gazing in at the windows, looking through the lattice. My beloved speaks and says to me, Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away. For, behold, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing bird has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land; the fig tree puts forth her green figs, and the vines in blossom give forth their scent. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away. O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the cliff, let me see your countenance, let me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your countenance is comely. Catch us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vineyards; for our vineyards are in blossom. My beloved is mine, and I am his; he pastures his flock among the lilies. Until the day cools, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether. 6 SAVE THE DATE Sundy 23 April Erev Yom HaShoah Film Screening and Reflective Service at Westminster Synagogue 4.00pm: 'Screening of Keep Quiet' 5:30pm: Q&A's with producer Alex Holder 6:00pm: Refreshments 6:45pm: Reflective Memorial Service Rabbi Dr Thomas Salamon together with Rabbi David Mitchell invite the communities of West London Synagogue and Westminster Synagogue to commemorate with a film screening and reflective service. Keep Quiet: A riveting documentary about a young Hungarian neo-Nazi leader whose life is upended when he discovers his Jewish roots, Joseph Martin and Sam Blair’s “Keep Quiet” would be valuable and important if it only told of one man’s journey from bigotry to repentance. But this expertly made, highly dramatic film achieves must-see status for the inevitable light it sheds on the persistence of toxic racial hatreds not just in Hungary but worldwide.
