Mr Yi Fan Tung Full-time DHTM Student School of Hotel and Tourism Management The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Personal Introduction Yifan was a research assistant of numerous research projects while studying in the Graduate School of Leisure Studies programme in the Hotel, Restaurant, and Recreation Management at the Pennsylvania State University. His research focus was on the motivations to volunteer in non-government organisations and he published two articles in the Journal of Interpretation (2004) and Legacy(2004) respectively. He also earned two honours:Graduate Student Endowment Fund(2000)in College of Health and Human Development, and Herberta M. Lundegren Graduate Scholarship ( 2003 ) . To learn different paradigms of hospitality management, Yifan joined the Penn State Study Abroad Programme and studied at two hotel schools in Switzerland:Hotel Institute Montreux, and Hotel School Les Roches. Yifan has more than four years’ experience with five-star hotels. After graduate school, he joined the Howard Hotels‧Resorts‧Suites, the largest hotel franchise in Taiwan, as a management trainee. He worked in numerous Howard hotels and resorts including Howard Lake Resort Shihmen Dam, Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei, Howard Skyline Restaurant, Howard Plaza Hotel Hsinchu, Howard Prince Hotel Taichung, and served as supervisor of housekeeping, front desk shift leader, assistant manager of Chinese and western restaurant, assistant manager of banquet hall, and assistant manager of food & beverage division. His last position at the Howard Hotels.Resorts.Suites was a training officer and lecturer in the corporate office. In the corporate office, Yifan’s work focused heavily on human resources management. He was in charge of the yearly training plan, curriculum design and instructions, such as conducting the “train the trainer” seminars as well as training executives and administrative staff from all Howard hotels. He was also involved in the project of HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point System)and ISO 22000 and facilitated Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei to pass both certifications in May 2009. These cross-trainings enhanced his adaptability of different jobs and environment transitions. Yifan is also a certified English tour guide(2007)and English tour leader(2007) in Taiwan.
