Monthly Budget Worksheet

Monthly Budget Worksheet
Income: To get started on your budget worksheet, record all the money you have coming in each
month. Account for every source of income you have, no matter how small.

Expenses: After you’ve recorded your after-tax income, the next step is to write down all the
expenses you face each month, and add them all together to get your total monthly expenses. Then
subtract your total monthly expenses from your total monthly income.
After-tax income – Total expenses = Amount of money you’ll have left
If the result is greater than 0, then you’ll probably have some money to spare each month. This
means you may have room in your pocketbook for things like a large purchase or payments on a
new loan. If the result is less than 0, then you need to cut back on your expenses to avoid going into
debt, and you probably shouldn’t count on making any unnecessary purchases.
In either case, this budget worksheet can help you get a better sense of where you are spending your
money. This in turn can help you decide where you can cut back to save. Items in the
“miscellaneous” category are more likely to be expenses you can eliminate.
