Cambium Networks 3 3.65GHz Spectrum – General Background • 3.65GHz is licensed under the FCC Part 90 • Non-exclusive, ‘lightly licensed’ band – – – – All locations of APs and SMs must be registered in FCC database No priority given to “first-in” or incumbent operators Competing operators must coordinate License is nation-wide and good for 10 years • Power is limited to 1W/MHz EIRP – PMP320 AP is considered a fixed base station – PMP320 SM is considered a fixed end point • Divided into two sub-bands – Lower 25MHz is for restricted protocols – Use of full 50MHz (3650 to 3700) is for unrestricted protocols • Exclusion areas are defined around certain fixed satellite areas and government locations – Agreement from license holders required before operating in these areas Cambium Networks 4 3.65GHz Spectrum – Power Limits • Power is limited based on channel bandwidth and application – PMP320 is categorized as base station and fixed stations (not mobile station) – Power is limited to 1W per MHz maximum while staying below the required noise mask limits – Refer to PMP320 Administration and Configuration Guide for instructions on setting the transmit power on the Access Point – Assumes use of PMP320 90-degree sector and SM integrated antennas – PMP320 AP has 2 transmitters (values below are for each transmitter) • Transmit Power Limits – – – – – per transmitter as set in AP configuration settings 10MHz channel: 19.91 dBm 7MHz channel: 18.35 dBm 5MHz channel: 16.85 dBm 3.5MHz channel: 15.33 dBm Cambium Networks 5 3.65GHz Spectrum – Exclusion Areas • Operation in the areas indicated below require additional written agreement from grandfathered license holders Cambium Networks Source: Federal Communications Commission Office of Engineering and Technology 6 3.65GHz Spectrum – Upper and Lower 25MHz • 3.65GHz band is divided into two sub-bands – PMP320 AP and SM is licensed to operate in both sub-bands – The PMP320 connectorized SM is only licensed to operate in the lower 25MHz. Upper 25Mhz application is in progress. • 3.65 to 3.675GHz can use ‘restricted’ protocols only (lower 25Mhz) – PMP320 is licensed to operate restricted protocol only in lower 25MHz. – When registering on the FCC web-site and selecting a lower 25MHz center frequency, the operator must select restricted protocol. • 3.65 to 3.7GHz requires ‘unrestricted’ protocol (upper 25Mhz) – – – – – Systems must detect the presence of other systems If detected, system must go silent to allow competing system access to spectrum PMP320 will reset AP and re-register all SMs when alternative system is detected PMP320 is licensed to operate with the un-restricted protocol only in upper 25MHz. When registering on the FCC web-site and selecting an upper 25MHz center frequency, the operator must select restricted protocol. Cambium Networks 7 Licensing and Registration Process • Step 1: Apply for FCC Registration Number – immediate response • Step 2: Apply for Nation-wide 3.65GHz License – can take several days – $260 fee • Step 3: Register each AP and SM site location – can take several days Cambium Networks 8 Step 1: Applying for FRN • Start from the www.fcc.gov home page: Cambium Networks 9 Step 1: Applying for FRN • An FRN (FCC Registration Number) is required to apply for license • http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do Cambium Networks 10 Step 1: Applying for FRN Your FRN is issued automatically and immediately.
