Traffic Enforcement Deputy John McGee heard
about a little boy in Key West who was afraid of
law enforcement officers. He took him some gifts
from the Sheriff’s Office and swore the boy in as a
Junior Deputy in the hopes he could show the boy
that officers are his friends.
The Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad made an
appearance at the recent Citizen’s Police
Academy graduation in Marathon.
This group, from the Sheriff’s Office, Navy and Coast
Guard, trained together in a full scale bomb threat
assessment and response exercise. The name says it
all. Great work and thanks for keeping us safe with your
hard work!
The folks at Seacamp on Big Pine Key were
very grateful that Sgt. David Smith thought
of them when he heard about all this
fishing equipment from Diane O’Dell in our
Property Division. Also among
the items was a telescope found
abandoned on the side of the
road. All the items will be used
for their various educational
programs for kids.
Middle Keys Deputy Aaron Coller
has been busy painting out graffiti
and cleaning up trash in the
Marathon area. Great job, Deputy
Coller!

American Legion Post 145 in Islamorada will
be recognizing a sworn officer monthly from
both Key Largo and Islamorada. This month,
Sgt.s Gregg Johnson (below) and Tom Kiffney in
recognition of their commitment to the citizens
of Monroe County. Johnson has worked for the
Sheriff’s Office since 2003 and was promoted
to sergeant in 2010; Kiffney has been with the
Sheriff’s Office in 1992 and was promoted in
1996. First Vice Commander Angela Glover
presented them with certificates, “Thank you”
challenge coins and gift cards.
Thanks once again to Home Depot in Key West.
They are always generous and this time they
donated 10 trash pickers for clean ups and an air
conditioner for the Stock Island storefront office.
Deputy Vicki Fleck and Sgt. Linda Mixon are
pictured with Manager Anwar Dudley.
Farmer Jeanne Selander and Mo were guest
speakers at Key West Sunrise Rotary. City
Manager and Sunrise Rotary President Jim Scholl
presented them with a challenge coin after the

Sheriff Rick Ramsay presented a $500 check
to Key West High Academic Coach Monica Fletchall for Project Graduation. He donated the same
amount to Coral Shores High this year, and to
Marathon High in 2015.
Explorer Post 906 paid a visit to our Marathon

and roses in appreciation for all those valuable
members do for the agency.

KID’S MISSION:
BECOME A VOLUNTEER!!!
The Frederick Douglass Gym is an indoor basketball court and activity room. A
tutorial program is offered at the gym after school Monday through Friday to
children in need of after school tutoring. This program is free. There is also a
basketball league housed at the gym that runs from December through March and
consists of a boys’ league playing 55 games and a girls’ league that plays 11
games.
On Comcast Cares day we will:
1. Complete a computer lab for the skill center.
2. Arrange a lazy reading area with beanbag chairs & carpet inside the gym.
3. Paint the outside walls, windows & doors of the building attached to the gym.
4. Create an outside reading area with benches, flower garden, mulch & border.
5. Clean and beautify the parking area.
Join the kid’s mission: to ensure that after school,
kids have a safe and rewarding place to play and learn.
