MESSAGE FROM DEACON TOM: The feast of the Ascension celebrates the entry of
Jesus into the glory of Heaven following his Resurrection. Its scriptural references are
found in Mark 16:19, Luke 24:51, and Acts 1:2. Traditionally it was celebrated on the
Thursday, being forty days after Easter Sunday. One can view it as a journey of Christ
now returning to the Father. However, because Christ was true God and true Man, we
also see the dignity of humanity sharing in Christ’s glory in heaven. The Ascension is a
reality check for us yet again of the inherent sacredness of our own humanity. We share in
heaven through the death, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus Christ.
Sometimes we can all feel God is aloof and not part of our day-to-day lives. Such is the
difficulty of maintaining our faith at times. But the Ascension reminds us that we are
never alone, Christ as our Advocate is no longer physically present with us but has gone
before us, preparing the way if we only have ears to listen to his message of love, hope
and justice.
HELP FOR THE VICTIMS OF THE NEPAL EARTHQUAKES: Caritas Australia is urgently
seeking support so that an immediate response can be made to the people of Nepal following the
disastrous earthquakes. There are special envelopes on the seats this week-end so that you can
make a donation to this special appeal. Any donation, no matter how small, will help. THANK’S
EVERYONE

Orthodox Church.

been in past years wouldn’t miss this wonderful event. The all-inclusive cost (3 course meal and

Stevens on the occasion of his forthcoming ordination to the priesthood. There will be raffle prizes
