Plant Stand Population 2017

Research has shown that there is no significant difference in
tonnage, sucrose concentration, recoverable sucrose per ton,
and recoverable sucrose per acre with plant populations
between 150 to 300 plants per 100ft of row.
The current recommendation is to have a harvest plant
population of 175 to 200 plants per 100ft of row. This
population provides a similar return as a plant population of
300 plants per 100ft of row at a reduced seed cost.
Plant populations below 100 plants per 100ft of row show
significantly lower tonnage, sucrose concentration,
recoverable sucrose per ton, and recoverable sucrose per acre.
Plant sugarbeet seeds 4.5 to 5 inches apart in 22-inch rows
when planting to stand. Planting at 4 miles per hour is
recommended.
Population trials conducted in 2011 and 2012, located near Murdock and Hector.
