Dr. Steve Kahn Presents “Calming the Chaos”
at February 9 Parent Association Meeting
•
There is so much going on in our
families during high school and
we know it can be stressful. Tests
and papers are all due at once.
Friendships will change. A new
boyfriend or girlfriend will arrive or
vanish. How can we help calm the
chaos? Join the DeLaSalle Parent
Association, as we welcome Dr.
Steve Kahn to our meeting Monday
at 6:30pm in the Robert Casanova Room. We’ll learn
strategies for balancing the demands of work, family and
activities as well as share our own perspectives as part
of the conversation. Dr. Kahn’s presentations have been
quite well received in previous years.

2015-16 Theme Reflects Student’s View of DeLaSalle
A Psalm reflection on community will be the Scripture theme
for the 2015-16 school year. DeLaSalle President Barry Lieske
chose the “How good it is when God’s people live in unity”
(Psalm 133:1) theme from a
submission by Jimmy
Farah ‘15. In his entry,
Farah wrote that the theme
captures one of DeLaSalle’s
greatest qualities - its
community. “Whether
you are in the classroom,
playing on the athletic field,
or walking through the hall, you know that God is always with
you,” Farah explained.
Students and staff may submit suggestions to Lieske in
January. This year’s theme “Find your delight in the Lord”
(Psalm 37:4) came from a submission by Tiarah Young ‘16.

event happen. Email Karin Glanville if

Islanders Exceed $2,000 Goal for Water Well in Nicaragua
A school in Nicaragua will benefit from the life-giving resource of water, thanks to the generosity
of the DeLaSalle school community. Islanders raised $2,624.89 to pay for the construction of a well
at the school through DeLaSalle’s H2O for Life initiative. Because
students exceeded the $2,000 fundraising goal, the school has
awarded a two-hour scheduled late start on Monday, March 17. The
junior class will also receive an out of uniform day at a later date
because they won the fundraising challenge between the four grade
levels.
Also, as part of the initiative, DeLaSalle implemented a one-day moratorium on plastic bottle
sales, saving 150 plastic bottles from entering the waste stream.
