THE YEAR
IN REVIEW
THE LIBRARY INSPIRES LEARNING
This
year,
14,000 children had fun learning
in The Library. From Tales for Tots
and Book Babies, through to Young
Critics and Pizza and Pages, we
supported the critical development
of readers. Detectives in the Art
Gallery and visits from the Orchestra
and local theatre groups drew big
crowds as we provided arts programming for our young learners.
STEAM programs are especially
popular. From Kinder-Coding and

Scratch-Camp to Lego Robotics,
Hero the Robot and 3D printing,
families are making the most of
our STEAM offerings. Engineers
who happen to be 8 years old have
been using our Hummingbird and
Makey-Makey gear to build robots
from found objects, while others
have learned cartooning and
computer animation.

This year The Library brought topnotch speakers to town including:
We host several fundraising events
during the year. Last year for our 8th
Literary Luncheon, Anthony Doerr joined
us to talk about his Pulitzer Prize winner:
All the Light We Cannot See. In February,
we enjoyed the uproariously funny Ali
Wentworth at our Ladies Night out event,
and in the spring, hundreds of New Canaanites turned up for Books and Beats
an outdoor
evening event

and fun.

hen my senior (high
school) internship

center
landed me at New
Canaan Library, I
wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
The Library has always been a
great place for doing research, and
the fun place for midterm prep, but
only some of us knew how much
more it has to offer. This summer’s

the chance to learn
new skills when
I participated in the Oral History
project, and insight into how forward
thinking our Library is in terms of
