If your company/ organisation/business provide activities suitable for a country park during the summer period, licences/leases will be available to start from April 2015 at: Pugneys Country Park, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield WF2 7EQ ABOUT PUGNEYS Background Location Pugneys Country Park is located south of Wakefield city centre, close to Junction 39 of the M1. Pugneys Country Park is approximately 250 acre site which was previously an open cast mine, and sand and gravel quarry; it was turned into a country park in 1985. The bulk of the Park comprises two lakes: • 80 acre (approx) watersports lake • 30 acre (approx) nature reserve. There are grassed areas (over 100 acres in total) plus buildings and car parks at the northern and southern end of the Park. OPPORTUNITY If you’re a business, charity or special interest group that can deliver a suitable Countryside experience we would like to hear from you. Short term licences or leases will be available to make possible the introduction of additional activities at Pugneys Country Park. These will be available for the summer season between 1 April 2015 and 31 October 2015. Here’s a snapshot of what we hope to have at Pugneys in 2015. These are just examples, so if you can provide something new or different we are open to all suggestions. Child/Family fun activities such as trampolining, juvenile rides, inflatables, donkey rides, temporary mazes, pedal-carts that don’t require tracks. Sporting activities such as a mobile climbing wall, fitness or activity camps, rowing, zorbs, temporary assault course. Countryside activities such as archery; trails (nature; geocache, podcast); forest school type activities like bushcraft or identification activities, temporary camping. Bespoke activities such as outdoor cinema, theatre performance. One off activities such as events, regattas; bi-/tri-athalons; running events; Dragon Boat racing, kite flying festivals, craft fairs, country-side festivals. Food related licences will be considered at Zone 1 and Zone 7 only. Ice cream sales will not be considered. The site map provides an overview of all the areas available, these are divided in to 7 different zones. A brief description accompanies each zone which includes size and potential park offer. If the marked zones highlighted on the map don’t meet your needs and you require a different or unmarked area please discuss your requirement with us. Please note: Leases available will be short term only to cover the 7 summer months (1 April - 31 Oct 2015), if you wish to discuss opportunities for activities or events ideal for winter months, please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your proposals. Access to power supply is not available and interested parties should ensure they have their own silent generators if power supply is required. EXISTING FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES Non-Powered water sports, including •kayaking •canoeing •sailing •windsurfing (Equipment is available to hire or visitors can bring their own craft to use on the lake.) Facilities within the Watersport Centre, including •Classrooms •Conference spaces •Café (open seven days a week) •Watersport courses for children (during the summer holidays guided by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) (The centre is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association and British Canoe Union teaching centre) Outdoor offer •A miniature railway - (7.25 inch gauge) operates on a 1,200meter run of track between Asdale Road and the lake - most weekends, Bank Holidays and throughout school holidays between Easter and September • Bike hire •Ice cream outlets • Footpath - around the lake (the distance is approximately 1.6 miles long, making it suitable for running or taking a leisurely stroll.) • Nature Reserve - including two hides, enabling visitors to watch the local wildlife in its own habitat • Numerous grassed areas - suitable for different activities •Car Park - there is a large car park next to the Watersports Centre for approximately 500 cars Data suggests that approximately 750,000 people visit the park each year PROCESS FOR APPLYING Viewing/register interest In the first instance please arrange a viewing or request an application form by contacting us on the email address below. You can also download a copy from the Council website www.wakefield.gov.uk/property The application form requires interested parties to demonstrate their previous experience or current business offer for the proposal they are looking to submit. Completed application form must be received by Monday 2 February 2015. Applications will be reviewed and the first round of leases or licences will be negotiated with successful applicants. YOUR VISION SITE MAP Areas marked orange on plan Zone 1 This is a flat grassed area adjacent to the main car park for Pugneys Country Park. It is within easy walking area of the café and the Watersports Centre. It has good vehicular access. The overall size is 7.9 acres (31,866m2) but can be used in smaller areas. It is this area that is being considered as a children & family friendly area with activities appropriate for this audience. Sale of food (excluding ice creams) and small seating area will also be considered. Zone 2 This area is grassed area between Denby Dale Road & Asdale Road. The overall size is 12.6 acres (50,809m2). There is a water supply. Access is via Asdale Road; one being vehicular the other being pedestrian. This area will be considered for camping, caravanning, rallies and miscellaneous events. Zone 3 Set in the conservation area and adjacent to a wooded area this is accessed via a cycle path approx. 1500m from the Watersports Centre/car park and by separate vehicular access off Asdale Road. The overall size is 37.2 acres (150,344m2). This area is considered suitable for major/ miscellaneous events and camping. Zone 4 This is a large flat grassed area with limited vehicle access and adjacent to Zone 6 which is a shallow water area. This is the flood overflow zone so is weather dependent. Zone 4 is 9.18 acres (37,154m2). The areas are considered suitable for sporting (eg. climbing walls) and countryside activities (eg archery), as well as family friendly activities (eg donkey rides). Zone 5 This is a large grassed areas with limited vehicle access and adjacent to Zone 5. Zone 5 is 12.6 acres (51,105m2). The areas are considered suitable for sporting (eg boot camp) and countryside activities (eg. off road cycling). Zone 6 This is an area of shallow water. Zone 6 is 4 acres (15,917m2) but can be reduced in size. The areas are considered suitable for water based activities (eg rowing, zorbs). Zone 7 This is a small grassed area suitable for a mobile catering facility only (no seating). It is on the route to Sandal Castle. Water The main area of water is 77 acres is to a maximum of 4m. It can be used in conjunction with other areas. It is available for nonmotorised water based activities providing The smaller area of water is 23 acres and a conservation wetland area.
