measure we take to ensure only bonafide people are in our school. We
appreciate you cooperation with this.
Lost Property
As we come to the end of the Term, we ask that parents check the lost property

have something to drop off, we ask that you leave it with one of these capable
ladies. The item may not be delivered immediately, however, we can assure you,
it will be given to your child as soon as the Receptionist/Secretary is free to do so.

This week during our Unit of Inquiry lessons, we have been going over our learning so far.
As this Unit comes to an end soon, we have been reviewing our Central Idea: ‘Foods go
through a process before they reach us’ and the Lines of Inquiry for this Unit:
Ms. Nobuhle Ngacu

Food production
How foods are transported.
How different processes have different consequences.
Throughout lessons and whole class discussions, the children have been able to talk about
a variety of foods, where they come from, how they reach us, how they are made/
packaged, the process of how foods are transported to us and the positive and negative
impacts of these. In Mathematics, we have been reviewing our learning on whole-part
relationships of numbers, we have been using language to compare quantities, for
example, more, less, first, second and we have continued to identify, describe and
sequence events in our daily routine. In Language, we have been recapping the features of
a recount during our Shared Writing lesson when we wrote about our long weekend. We
remembered to use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, sentence openers and
connectives. During Guided Reading we have been showing an understanding of how a
book works, for example, cover, beginning directional movement, end. We have also
started to answer comprehension questions based on the text we read.
Please help to consolidate your child’s learning by having discussions about this Unit at
home.

Introduction for Mr Bland (Head of PE)
As we all begin to look forward to the holidays, the Primary PE department continues to be
incredibly busy with fixtures and events which will run all the way through until the end of term.
Our drive to increase swimming provision in this first term has shown real evidence of success
and we hope that this will continue in the swim galas and Aquathlons that take place in term 2.
I hope that you enjoy reading all of the information below and that you feel up to date with
everything that is happening, both in lessons and in our extra curricular sport. Please also be
aware of any notices contained in our newsletter and do not hesitate to contact myself or a
member of the Primary PE team if you have any questions.
SPORTS DAYS
This week saw the first of our two sports days for Years 3 and 4 and also Year 6. All the children
had lots of fun rotating around the different events and showing off their skills that have been
practised in lessons. We had a great turn out from the parents who were there to support and
cheer on their children and many even got involved in our tug of war at the end. Our games
captains were outstanding, they helped the teachers to run the events smoothly and also worked
hard to do a quick clear up.
These days are not possible without the help of many people involved so a big thanks to all the
games captains, teachers, PE team, maintenance, cleaners, IT dept as well as the children and
parents for making the days such a success.
Still to come next week.

EISM REPRESENTATIVE FOOTBALL
FOOTBALL - BOYS YR5
The U10 Boys Football team travelled out to Rashid School for Boys for the finals tournament.
Meadows made it through the season undefeated in their league and were placed into the tier 1
group for the finals against the other four league-leading schools. This means that the team were
1 of the top 5 U10 teams here in Dubai within the DASSA Primary School Sports Association. A
fantastic achievement for a group of boys who did not play together before this season.
The boys had 4 games in a row, with the first match against a strong Horizon International Team.
The team played a very tight first half, which finished 0 - 0. The second half saw a lot of pressure
applied by Horizon in our defensive half. With that pressure, they slowly unlocked our defense
and were rewarded with 2 goals. The boys were disappointed as this was their first loss of the
season.
The second game was against another strong opponent in the Nord Anglia School team. Meadows
dominated the possession stats and took many shots on goal. The Nord Anglia keeper kept them
in the match with many quality saves. The second half was very similar to the first, however, the
constant pressure applied by our midfield and strikers was finally rewarded with a last minute
goal. It was a hard fought win and showed the attacking qualities and exciting game that
Meadows prides itself on. A special mention to Hassan Hneini, whose number was taken down
by the organizers as a key player in the match. Players were being noted within each match to be
used to identify.
The third match was against the competition favorites in GEMS Wellington Silicon Oasis. The first
half showed just how ferocious GEMS was in their midfield and attack. However, Meadows fought
very hard as a team to keep out the attack and go into the half 0 - 0. Meadows came out firing in
the second half to get a couple of opportunities in the GEMS half. However, the crisp passing,
constant pressure and midfield dominance shown from GEMS again unlocked our defense and
Meadows ended up losing the match. The team should hold their heads up high for their brave
performance. The goal difference that they had versus GEMS was far lower than any of the
matches that they had during the league season.
The fourth and final game was against Kings Al Barsha. After a comprehensive loss in the last
match, the Meadows team picked themselves off the floor in emphatic fashion. They dominated
possession and took a lot of shots in the first half. Again, the keeper kept many quality shots out
of the goal and held Meadows to a 0 - 0 halftime score. Meadows again dominated the second
half and scored an early goal through some great teamwork! The end score was 1 - 0 towards
Meadows. A good finish to an otherwise tough finals tournament. With 2 wins and 2 losses the
team can count themselves to be well-deserved top 5 team in Dubai. Well done to them for the
hard work and commitment shown during training and during games. Thank you for the parents
and home support that has helped our team with fantastic cheering and support during the
season. It means a lot to the boys and creates a very positive environment that drives Meadows
school sport. See you all next year for another season…….. Kenny Lim

GIRLS YR5 & YR6 FOOTBALL
After the excellent result of finishing first in their league our Year 6 team attended the finals this
Monday at Kings Nad Al Sheba. They were placed with the other 5 schools that came first in their
leagues to play a round robin of short 8 minute games. We were up against some very tough
competition including DESS, WIZ, Nord Anglia, Repton and First Point.
The girls showed some great teamwork and determination and ended up with some very close
matches with 2 draws and 3 small losses. Nord Anglia took the top spot for the tournament and
went home with the trophy.
It was a great event and atmosphere with also league play offs going on for schools who finished
2nd, 3rd and 4th in their leagues. The girls really enjoyed it and it gave the experience to play
many more schools around Dubai.
This concludes the Year 6 football for this school year. Well done to to all girls for the tremendous
effort they have put in they really developed as a team. Also thanks to the parents for all their
support many who came out to all the matches.
Our Year 5 team still have one final friendly match away against GEMS Wellington Silicon Oasis
next Monday 12th December so we wish them luck for that.
GIRLS YR5 & YR6 NETBALL
Our Year 6 Netball team had a pre-season warm up tournament last Tuesday at Kings Al Barsha.
It was a great event with around 25 schools attending playing in groups over 7 courts.
We were grouped with 3 other schools including Horizon International, Victory Heights Primary
School and Safa British School and played a total of 4 short matches including a round robin
playing each team and then play offs for 1st and 2nd place and 3rd and 4th place.
Our first match against Victory Heights saw the girls take their first win 3-0, our second match
against Horizon was a little tougher for the girls and evenly matched ending in 0-0 draw, Our third
match in the round robin was against Safa and the girls managed to take another victory of 3-1.
This meant we then played off for 1st and 2nd position in our group against Horizon again. The
girls raised their game and came back confident for a 5-0 win and thus taking 1st place in our
group a fantastic result for their first outing as a team this year.
Our Year 5 development team attended a similar tournament this Tuesday more details to follow
next week on this.
Our final training for 2016 will be next Tuesday 13th December and then will recommence after
the holidays on Sundays starting on Tuesday 10th January.
