Thread Whirling is a type of thread milling whereby inserts are mounted on the inside of a ring, as opposed to
the outside of a tool. Cutting occurs when the whirling ring rotates at high speeds around a slowly rotating work
piece, which advances according to the required thread pitch.
Suited to machining long-threaded, small diameter parts in materials such as titanium, stainless steel and high
temperature alloys, thread whirling is commonly used to produce threads in bone screws and dental implants in
the medical and dental industries, as well as mass produced small components.
