Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Do you remember the first time you visited this
church? Did you walk in not knowing anybody?
Did you encounter unknown faces, music, and
habits? What made you feel welcome? What brought you back?
Each of us was at one time a “visitor.” God’s call is for us to invite
people to take part in what God is doing in and through us. Signs,
websites, special events, and follow-up programs all have their place
but if love, relationships, and participation are distinguishing marks of
this congregation then love, personal relationships, and involvement
are the ways that we will grow and bear fruit for the kingdom of God.
Each member of the congregation reaching out to their neighbors and
coworkers is far more effective than the most costly
advertising campaigns. Personal contact and care by
the people of the church towards visitors and
newcomers are very effective.
Let us continue to dedicate ourselves to reaching out to
those God brings in our doors on Sunday mornings.
Here are a couple of ways you can help.
•
•
•
•
When you see someone you don’t know introduce yourself.
Try sitting in different places so you can meet different people.
Invite a visitor or someone you do not know to sit with you. Say
hello to a few people you don’t know before spending time with
your good friends.
Participate in our Community BBQ, June 10th, 3PM-5PM.
Churches don’t grow by accident and neither do relationships. I
rejoice that Jesus left his comforts and privileges to reach out to us. I
pray that we will continue to demonstrate this love to others.
See you in church!

JUNE WORSHIP SCHEDULE
June 4 – This is Baccalaureate/Scholarship Sunday.
The Scholarship Committee will provide a special
coffee hour after worship. We will celebrate
the accomplishments of our children and
youth as some are completing certain levels
of education and others moving on to new
levels of education. We will come joyfully to the
Communion Table and share The Lord’s Supper together.
June 11 – This is Confirmation and Choir Sunday.
Here at Olivet we usually have Confirmation Sunday on
Pentecost Sunday, but this year
Pentecost fell on Scholarship/
Baccalaureate weekend. So, on this
June 11th Sunday we will celebrate
the Confirmation of Emily Bryant,
Brandon Chiapperino and Christopher
MacCallum. We will also celebrate the music
ministry of Olivet led by our devoted Choir Director, John Fiore.
June 18 – This is Father’s Day. Join us as we honor
the love and special gifts that Father’s bring to their
families and to Olivet. Each Dad present will receive
a small token of appreciation.
June 25 – This is the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. We will take
some time to share together ways in which we can continue to do
God’s work in our community throughout the summer months. We will
hear from various members about the many ministries that continue
over the summer months.
We were busy last month: working in the
“Garden,” heading the Senior Sunday Worship
Service and enjoying an informative and
“delicious” outing to the candy factory, a local
legend, (followed by lunch, of course, at
Charlie Browns).

As well, on May 23, Tina treated us to a wonderful program
focusing on her trip to Russia last year and featuring slides, photos
and commentary. Outstanding job Tina.
The Cape Cod Memorial Weekend trip was terrific and we’ll share
more in the next newsletter.
On June 6, thanks to Christina’s daughter, Cathy, we’ll help
celebrate Chris’ 90th with a catered meal. On the 27th, we’ll
close out the year with a special luncheon at La Fontana
Restaurant.
Of course, we hope to keep in touch over the summer as we gather
at two barbecues hosted by The Krajnaks.
Remember: Be Well — Stay Cool — Keep Praying . . .

The Mission Committee is committed to
the development and success of Olivet’s
Heavenly Harvest Garden and committee
members have been volunteering when
they can, to provide needed hands-on
assistance. Plans for committee involvement in some new Garden
initiatives are in the planning stages and we look forward to sharing
them soon. It is our privilege to be a part of this new mission project
and to share in its positive impact on our community as we serve God
through serving others.
Thanks to volunteers, Rod and Blanny Couto, Lauri Jean Phillips,
Jean Scarcella, Tina Sais and Jeanine Leib for volunteering at the
Amazing Kids distribution on May 6th.
The last give-away before the summer will be at Calvary Church on
Saturday, June 6th, from 9:00 to 12:00. Requested
items over the summer months are children’s
clothing (mostly boys’ sizes 7-14) and SCHOOL
SUPPLIES AND BACKPACKS for September’s
distribution. Donations can be left in the narthex.
The annual BBQ for the participants in Project Hospitality’s Positive
Living program will take place on Wednesday, July
19th at Olivet. This is always a time of fellowship and
good food and enjoyed by all. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
TO HELP with the following:
*shopping
*set-up
Please see a Mission committee member
*serving
if you can help.
*grilling
*clean-up
PH cooking teams will be providing side dishes and desserts, but
additional food donations are always welcome. MONETARY
DONATIONS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED, as well.
As always, the Mission team thanks you for your support!!
Dear Olivet Family,
June is a favorite month for many. For
students and teachers it's just a few more
weeks until school is over. For families it
means summer casual Fridays and
vacations.
The same is true in church. Each year
we have Baccalaureate/Scholarship
Sunday which recognizes those who are graduating or
advancing in school and those receiving Olivet
Scholarships. At the end of June, children and youth
Sunday celebrates students on completing another church
school year.
The children and youth had an amazing year. By now, you
may know a bit about the Olivet storybook or the
parables that the youth have been studying. You've been
invited to many events that the Christian Ed committee has
hosted over the past few months. It has been quite the church
school year and my thanks go out to Shermarke, all of the
Sunday school teachers and volunteers at our events who
have made it a successful year.
We really hope that you will consider supporting the youth
ministry by volunteering throughout the next year. Please
pray about assisting in church school,
working with the youth group, or
helping out with the outreach events that
we host. If there's anything I learned this
year, it is that a healthy youth ministry
thrives with volunteers. Please consider
showing our children and youth that
you are here to help them grow.
Joyfully in Christ,
Grace
