Atwell Update
Number Fifteen - Friday 9th September 2016
From the Principal’s desk:
Dear Parents
Learning Journey:
Our annual “Learning Journey” event will be on Wednesday 14th September and is
an opportunity for parents, carers and family members to visit the classrooms to see
the amazing work the children have been doing. The students and staff welcome
you into their classrooms between 3.30pm – 5pm. You will be taken on a tour that
showcases the teaching and learning programs being delivered across the school.
Remember to visit the Art, LOTE and Sport areas to see the achievements your child
has made during the specialist classes. The official opening of the 2016 “Learning
Journey” will be at 3.15pm in Mort Hall where our Atwell Choir and Year Three Choir
will perform. There will also be a Science display in the hall you can view at any time
through the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at this wonderful event which
celebrates the achievements of our school community.
As teaching staff will NOT be on playground duty during the “Learning Journey”,
Parents, you are asked to ensure your children are supervised at all times
whilst on the school grounds, especially around the Billabong and play
equipment (students should not be on the playground equipment).
Atwell Tree:
Mr Jones had the pleasure of working with Year 4, LA 16 students and Bunnings
representatives on Tuesday 23rd August to plant trees donated to the school by the
Cockburn Bunnings store. The trees (not just any tree but the rare Tuarts) were
planted at the south end of the oval and in our vegie garden. Our Atwell tree, which
has been part of the school since it opened and is located in the Kindy area, is the
symbol that emblazons our uniform. Bunnings managed to source the seedlings
after an exhaustive search. These will now flourish over the years ahead. The
students were as excited as Mr Jones to be planting and growing the trees as our
Atwell tree in Kindy will not last forever. It is wonderful we are now growing the
same type of tree so we will always be reminded of where it all began. The school
community thanks Bunnings for this special donation and their support of our school.
