Bavaria to award COP$20mn in seed capital to the best national film

Press Release
Bavaria to award COP$20mn in seed capital to the
best national film at the FICCI cinema festival
Cartagena, February 20, 2013. In recognition of the boom that the national film industry
is currently experiencing, Bavaria, through the Bavaria Foundation, will give seed capital
of COP$20mn to the most outstanding Colombian production that wins its “Destapa el
Futuro del Cine Colombiano” ("Uncap the Future of Colombian Cinema") award, as part
of the 53rd International Film Festival of Cartagena de Indias (FICCI).
This new award is part of the "Colombia al 100%" (Colombia at 100%) section of the
festival where 14 of the best national films will compete for the prize, including nine world
premieres. This is in recognition of the importance of the Festival as an obligatory
destination for anyone from the international film industry that is interested in the
cinema of the region.
Half of these films are documentaries, showing the increasing trend in the country
towards making this type of production. These locally made documentary productions
are noted for their high quality.
Almost a third of the films are international co-productions, representing another trend on
the landscape of national cinema. This is in part thanks to the financial assistance and
support of the Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico (Fund for Film Development)
which has created incentives to attract producers from abroad.
Club Colombia celebrates the achievements of Colombian cinema
During the seven-day Festival, Club Colombia, the leading premium brand in the market,
will be present at the social events that will be held after the festival's academic
workshops and press conferences in the Centro de Cooperación Española (AECID)
venue. It will also provide a Club Colombia VIP Zone where only the crews of the films
that will be screened in the Teatro Heredia (Heredia Theatre) will be allowed access. It
will also be at the opening and closing cocktail parties, where personalities from the film
industry, including producers, directors, media, business people, local authorities and
sponsors will be present.
