Copyright © Arts for Youth 2013 Fun Fact! Bridgewater, Wednesday, July 17, 2013 Phineas J. Pennypicker III Do you know how rolls toilet paper is made? Well, if you get that rush of curiosity, here it is... First, they take shredded recycled paper and mix and mix until it gets all mushy and disgusting and looks like porridge. Then you have to remove the ink. After the ink is removed it goes through a series of rollers to get the water out from when you mixed the paper. It then gets chopped up by revolving blades and transported to the bleach where they bleach the chopped paper. When the bleached paper is done, it’s laid out on a conveyer through a hot dryer. In less than a second, the paper is dried into a delicate and fragile paper 4,000 of an inch thick. Then it’s rapped up on big spools which each hold about 47 miles of the paper. That spool feeds the thin paper into a design maker. It isn't just for looks, it makes the paper thicker. The cardboard rolls are sent to the toilet paper part of the factory. 2 spools of the paper feed together after one side is glued so they make a 2 ply roll. The paper then winds onto a cardboard tube super thick. When the roll is full a big blade automatically cuts the rolls to the right size. Then you are done and it gets all wrapped up for packaging. Enjoy your paper for toilets! - Madelyn C. Treymont Word of The Day Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious The word you say when you don’t know what to say.
