AsIwritethisonSundayafternoon,July21st,I'vejustcome

conversationsaboutracismintheaftermathofthe
Zimmermantrial,Isaidthis,"Ourtaskisnottohaveallthe
answers.Ourtaskistolisten,tolearn,tobeteachable,tobe
open.Ourtaskistobearwitnessandtoremember.Ourtaskis
tosingandsustainourresolveovertime."
ImaginemydelightwhenIwasthumbingthroughtheJuly
26theditionof"TheWeek"magazineandfoundashortpiece
(page19)ontheeffectsofgroupsingingthatincludedthese
conclusions:
"Aschoirsingersharmonize,theirbreathingandheartbeats
synchronizeintimewiththemusic-creatingarewardingfeelingofoneness...,the

Andthis,"Researchersfoundthatthepulsesofthesingersincreasedanddecreased
togetherasthemusic'stempochanged.Whenthesongsrequiredthesingersto

Thereisastrengththatmovesintomyheart,intomybody,andintomymindwhenwe
allsingtogether.Thereisaviewofpossibilitythatopenstomewhenwesingin
harmonies.Thatstrengthispartofwhatwillberequiredofusifwearetobepartof
revisioningtheparadigmthatdemandsracismandoppressionasnecessaryand
immovableelementsofAmericancultureandeconomy.

legislativeabortionrestrictions.

reproductivejusticeforwomenandfamilies,Danielle
Atkinson,ofMotheringJustice,urgedUUstojoineffortsto
helprestaurantworkersgetpaidsickleaveandraisethe
minimumwage.Tippedemployeesminimumwageis$2.20
perhour.LindsayMaas,ofMichiganPlannedParenthood,
alertedustotheMichiganpetitiondrivewhichwouldforce
avotetobanallabortioncoverageinstateinsurance
