Trafalgar Noon Hour Programs 2017 Trafalgar Noon Hour programs are back for more fun in 2017!! We are bringing back some wonderful programs that sold out in minutes last session, as well as introducing some new ones featuring Music, Drama, Dance, Earth Science and more! Noon Hour Programs will run at lunchtime between 12:20-12:57pm. They are all taught by experienced instructors with criminal record checks. It is a great chance for children to have fun and enjoy extracurricular activities with their school friends, as well as a wonderful way to keep dry during all of those rainy months! Registration The programs are for Grades 1-7 once again this session but we will be introducing some programs for Kindergarten students in the Spring when the children are more familiar with the school and their schedules. Registration Open: November 21st at 7:00am Registration Close: November 28th at 7:00am PLEASE NOTE NEW POLICY: All programs MUST be paid for at the time of registration in order to secure your child’s spot. Enrollment and payment for the Noon Hour Programs is done through the Hot Lunch System at trafalgar.hotlunches.net. The Noon Hour programs link will only be visible on the screen once registration opens. Enrollment and Policies Registration is available for the whole term only (no pro-rated rates available). Courses may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not attained. Refunds are only offered under extenuating circumstances and only during the first week of class. There are no make up classes. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Chemical Concoctions The Dry Ice Bubbling Potions Lab classes will demonstrate cryogenics, endothermic reactions and matter in its changing state. Experiment with fun and invent science pop, taste the burping potion and see Mr. Cork fly! The power of C02 mixed with H20 will blow the top off our laboratory cannons, grow fish egg bubbles and heat up the scientific bubble shower for everyone to try. Junior Geniuses will conduct their own experiments like Flubber, science candies and psychedelic atomic orbs, just to name a few. Instructor Janine the Jenius will provide a rewarding take home each week. Students can appreciate the art of magic by learning new tricks with cards, coins or small objects each week. Every trick demonstrates a different magical principle and includes its history. Practicing magic challenges memory, improves motor skills, and inspires imagination and creativity. Want to feel motivated by playing the music you love? The ukulele is the best way to start! Why? Because it is small, portable and easy to pick up on - even for the most novice beginners! Given it's size the, Ukulele is perfect for small children. A basic understanding of the easy-to grasp chords will have you strumming a tune in mere days! This is a fun and stress-free environment. Learn basic chords, how to tune the ukulele, and strumming and playing songs. Your child will be playing by the end of the first session. All ages and abilities are welcome. Students will play in a fun and friendly atmosphere and will be coached at their level of understanding. They will receive weekly chess puzzles based on their knowledge of the game and tips on how to apply the lessons of chess to mathematics and life. Parent volunteer players and observers are welcome. This session’s theme is Forces of Nature!! This unit is all about the amazing and powerful forces of nature, as students explore the when, where, how and why of all kinds of natural phenomenon. Each model represents and simulates the motion of a particular weather event. Art! Drama! Music! Play! Create! Learn! The group will collaborate to produce individual and group work centered on a theme. Although a variety of arts techniques will be introduced—music, creative writing, movement, visual art—other important learning/life skills such as problem solving, cooperation, collaboration, leadership and communication will be an essential part of creating the work. Each child will have a chance to contribute to every part of the production and/or display regardless of his or her skill level or previous experience. Grades: 1-3 Day: Thursdays Dates: January 12 - March 30, 2017 Location: Room 103 Instructor: Shauna Farrell Fee: $62.00 (10 sessions) Enrollment: 12 (minimum 6) Architecture This hands-on course explores the fundamental concepts of architecture, and the principles of design that make architecture an asset to our communities. Students will use 2-D drawings as well as materials such as cardboard, recycled items, and found objects to explore their ideas in 3-D models. Grades: 3-7 Day: Fridays Dates: January 13 - March 31, 2017 Location: Library Instructor: Katie Henderson Fee: $76.00 (9 sessions) Enrollment: 12 (minimum 6) Earth Scientists Junior geologists will dissect the layers from a laboratory earth egg to learn what our planet is made of. We will study plate tectonics, laboratory volcanoes, mineral and rock identification, and do gold panning for gems. Scientists will create an edible garden and have a take home after each class! Grades: 1-7 Day: Fridays Dates: January 13 - March 31, 2017 Location: Room 103 Instructor: Janine Spring Fee: $65.00 (9 sessions) Enrollment: 25 (minimum 20) Bollywood, Zumba, and Hip Hop Mix-Up! Kids will explore the wonderful world of dance in a high-energy dance-fitness program!
