SPANISH ARTS DAY:
Dia de Artes Espaňoles
On Tuesday 23rd June 2015 (martes 23 de junio), we held a unique day of
creativity here at Sandgate Primary School, focusing on the inspirational art
of Pablo Picasso & Antoni Gaudi, two prolific Spanish artists.
Ks1 focused on Picasso, who was born in Malaga in
Andalucia, in the South; whilst KS2 learned about the
life and works of the Catalan artist and architect, Gaudi,
one of Barcelona’s most famous sons.

Each class focused on different aspects of the artists’
creations. These included creating their own abstract
self-portraits, painting in colour tones such as used in
the Blue Period, designing and making their own
Gaudi towers and chimneys out of clay AND designing
their own structures inspired by Gaudi’s Sagrada
Familia Cathedral, to name just a few.
The children developed their Spanish language
skills, being taught and then challenged to describe
their own art works in Spanish. As well as the Art
and Language skills , they had many other
opportunities to use cross-curricular skills in
Computing, Geography, History and other areas.
