Parents and community are invited to join us in the gym to hear Terry’s story and begin the run. Pledge forms have been sent out to students in grades 4 to 9. Students in kindergarten to grade 3 are asked to bring in a toonie on the day of the run. All funds donated are forwarded to the Terry Fox Foundation. We hope to see everyone come out and participate in this worthwhile run. That means that, during the school day, all children in ECS to Grade 12 within BRSD have basic insurance coverage in the event of injury – for example, if there is an ambulance trip required or there are expenses associated with treatment. However, if a child is injured, the family is responsible for making claims to the insurance company. This cannot be done by any staff of BRSD or a specific school. For more detailed information, check this link on the BRSD website http://www.brsd.ab.ca/Parents/Student%20Accident%20I nsurance/Forms/AllItems.aspx BRSD’s insurance company also offers parents a lower-cost opportunity to purchase additional insurance for their school-aged children, which allows the children to be covered 24-hours a day. Brochures for that program, called Kids Plus, have been sent home separately from this newsletter. *Killam Ladies Bowling - Wednesdays, starting Oct. 10th. Call Maybell at 385-3681 or Bessie at 385-2171 if interested. LITERACY CORNER • • Local Student Published - Carter Ortman, a grade 9 student, had one of his assignments published this year. Graham Foster, author of the teacher resource Ban the Book Review included an assignment written by Carter in LA 8 as an exemplar to help other students. Well done Carter. A HUGE thank you to Guardian Drugs for their generous support in helping to start the Jr. High Reading program. TECHNOLOGY TIPS Our wireless network, Rivernet, is now available for educational purposes for students in grades 4-9. When students use this network their internet activity is trackable through BRSD as they must use their school password to enter this network. Should you choose to have your child bring a 3G or higher electronic device to school they are able to go on to the internet through the 3G network but their activity is not trackable by the school.
