Fairytale Physical Education Audio Books Use some old sheets and blankets to make a temporary castle. Read some fairytale books in your make believe castle. Draw a picture of your favorite fairytale character and write a caption for your illustration. Read a nonfiction book about a sport or type of outdoor game. Build an obstacle course in your yard or room and create an invitation for others to come and play. Check out an audio book from the library and listen to a story. Write a paragraph telling which you prefer: audio books (listening) or printed books (reading). Trip Books Tree /Garden Encourage a Friend Participate in at least one of the activities offered by the Cobb County Public Library System. Check out their site www.cobbcat.org/srp/ for more details! Write a persuasive paragraph to a friend encouraging him/her to join you! Plunge into the dirt and read stories about trees such as: Curious George Plants a Tree by H. A. Rey, Just a Dream by Chris Van Allsburg, The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, or The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. Write about how your can do something to help the environment. Technology KID’S CHOICE Careers Read a nonfiction book about a career that interests you. Write down your two favorite things about that career. Going on a trip? Find age appropriate books about the place you are visiting Visit your local public library for suggestions of books. Bring the books with you on your trip and talk about the books while you are traveling. Create a postcard describing your travels. Probe your imagination and create your own reading and writing assignment! Go to www.wonderopolis.org and research “computer bug”. Click on the article, “Is a Computer Bug an Insect”? Read the “Did you know?” section. Draw a picture of what you think a computer bug might look like. READ Index Card Award Winning Book Read an award-winning book (Caldecott, Newberry, etc.)! readingrockets.org/books/ awardwinners/ or ask at the public library. Do you agree that it’s an award winner? Write your opinion and explain History Read about a famous person in history such as a former president, an inventor, etc. Would you want this person to be your friend? Why or why not? Health At breakfast, search the cereal box for all the words you know or don’t know and make a list. Read a fiction picture book On an index card, write the letters READ in a column. Go back to your book and count the times you see the letter R and write that number next to the R. Do the same for letter. Science Read a nonfiction book to discover an animal that’s new to you. Create an acrostic poem by writing something you’ve learned for every letter in the animal’s name. HINT: Write the animals name vertically down the side of the page. Fine Arts Using CultureGrams in the Cobb Virtual Library, choose a country. Under the category “Lifestyle”, choose “The Arts”. Read this section and create a Venn diagram comparing/ contrasting the country’s arts with those of the USA. Math Read a fiction book of your choice. Write down how many pages and how many pictures are in the book. Now write those numbers as words and use them in a complete sentence. Challenge: Five synonyms for the word “dig” are included in the activity descriptions. Can you find and circle all five? Hint: The word “dig” is not one of them.
