COMPANY OVERVIEW
Dr. Davindra Singh, lead dermatologist and founder of AvantDerm, had a
vision: to provide patients with immediate access to dermatology care; to
address the needs of people with ethnic skin; to create an ultra-modern
facility with the most advanced technologies and treatments.
AvantDerm is the first dermatology clinic in Canada to offer a Rapid
Access Clinic (RAC), which combines the immediate access of a walk-in
clinic with specialty care by a team of fully-qualified dermatologists. For
the first time, this model allows patients to be seen by a skin specialist as
early as the next business day following a referral from a physician.
In addition to this, AvantDerm has also launched the Ethnic Skin
Institute. Medical conditions including acne, pigmentation disorders,
hair disorders, infections and vitiligo all present differently and more
frequently in ethnic skin and therefore require specialized care. Our team
of ethnic skin specialists has received advanced training and knowledge
in medical and cosmetic treatments and is able to recognize subtle colour
and pattern differences in patients’ skin, thereby allowing us to make
accurate diagnoses and offer appropriate treatment for almost all skin
conditions.
AvantDerm also offers a full range of cosmetic services, customizing
treatment plans to meet the needs of patients of all skin types.
Services offered include Botox injections, dermal fillers, chemical peels,
microdermabrasion and laser therapy. Our lasers are safe and effective
at treating every skin type, by providing laser therapies that target
unwanted hair, ageing skin, unwanted veins, uneven skin tone, rosacea
and other disorders. The clinic is outfitted with the most advanced
equipment and technology, from Cutera and Cynosure lasers to a
Hydrafacial™ microdermabrasion system, each providing patients with
state-of-the-art services.
Visually, this modern dermatology clinic aims to revolutionize the
meaning of a medical office space and embraces the spirit and history
of its location in the Historic Distillery District. With the use of reclaimed
wooden beams, concrete surfaces and beautiful glass chandeliers, it is a
space that is raw, yet simple, sophisticated and elegant.
DR. DAVINDRA SINGH
Lead Dermatologist &
Founder
AvantDerm
Award-winning dermatologist Dr. Davindra Singh was born and raised
in the quiet city of Peterborough, Ontario. He possesses a wealth of
experience based on almost fifteen years as a practising physician and he
has always been dedicated to providing medical care to patients in underserviced communities.
His medical career began in the small, rural, Northern Ontario town
of Iroquois Falls. He spent eight years practising as a family physician,
emergency physician, and sole physician of a nursing home. Amongst
other administrative roles, he spent his final years there as Chief of Staff.
Dr. Singh decided to pursue his passion and returned to the University
of Toronto to complete a residency in dermatology. While doing so, he
continued to dedicate time to his patients in Northern Ontario, providing
care until a replacement could be found.
Dr. Singh observed two voids in dermatology care that hit particularly
close to home. Firstly, it was evident that Toronto, the most multicultural
and ethnically diverse city in the world, was not well equipped to handle
the dermatological needs of patients with ethnic skin. Secondly, access
to dermatologists was limited and waiting times were exceedingly long,
especially in areas just outside the Toronto core.
To gain further knowledge and skill in managing patients of different
ethnicities, Dr. Singh spent several months in India and various
multicultural cities in the United States, including Washington, D.C., where
he completed an ethnic skin fellowship at Howard University. He worked
with world-renowned experts in order to bring back to Canada well-proven
dermatological techniques for various ethnic skin types.
To address the barriers to accessing dermatological care, Dr. Singh decided
to build on the skills he gained from his previous specialties of medicine to
develop an innovative concept, termed the ‘Rapid Access Clinic (RAC)’. This
model allows a patient to be referred and seen as early as the next business
day. This is a winning situation for all parties: patients, referring physicians,
and dermatologists alike, and this model stands to revolutionize the way
dermatological care is provided.
AvantDerm is more than just a dermatology clinic; it is an evolution in
healthcare. Dr. Singh continues to discover voids in current care that can
be addressed in innovative ways in order to highly benefit the greater
community. It is his passion and dream and he is excited to make it a reality.
