Hi there! Here’s a little taster of the Mfacts121 program. 1. Follow this sample from our detailed Unit Outlines SESSION & LEARNING INTENTION (L.I.) TOOLS/ WARM UP WHOLE GROUP LEARNING INDEPENDENT LEARNING Session 6 L.I: We are investigating strategies for the multiplication facts. Whole class
each student is to
record the multiples of 3 or 4
(skip count) (teacher chooses based on class needs) starting at 0. How far can they get in
1 minute
? They then correct their own work while the class calls out the multiples together. Teacher briefly draws attention to
patterns/strategies. Asks students to look at their own work what was tricky? Use it to help you in the next round! Then, repeat
can students go further than the first time and improve on their
personal best
? Becoming proficient at anything takes effort and practise. Teacher Talk Video: ‘Skip Counting and Multiples* View

for ideas and tips on teaching the 3 x _ strategy. You will also find ideas about
student prerequisite skills required for learning this strategy. Teacher
writes some basic multiplication facts
up

and asks students to share ideas for solving (2 x 6, 3 x 4, 2 x 5, 3 x 6)
Begin recording on a class chart
‘Multiplication Facts – Our Strategy List’ (It’s a good idea to start with the
class building up their own list
, rather than giving them the predetermined list of strategies. REFLECTION/ SUMMARY Had you ever thought of using the 3 x _ strategy before? Extend
play an adjusted version of the ‘
3 x _ Game’,
increasing the number range, so that high attainers are multiplying
3 x 2digit numbers
. The

can be brought in later and linked to what students have developed themselves) * Links not activated in this document, only available to paid members. 2. The ‘3 x _ strategy’ Video for the above lesson is available on the

homepage. © Copyrighted to Mfacts121 3 x Think ‘double, plus one more group’ 9 15 18 21 12 24 27 30 6 © Copyrighted to Mfacts121 How to play: ●Use this game to practise using the ‘3 x _ strategy’ think
‘double, plus one more group’. ●Play in pairs or small groups. ●Each player needs a game board (above) and some counters (any colours). ●Each pair or group needs one 6 or 10 sided die for the group to share. ●Take turns to roll the die. Calculate ‘3 x _’ (the number rolled). ●If the product (answer) is on your board, place a counter on it. ●Ensure you practise using the ‘3 x _ strategy’ to help you learn how it works! Just think... ‘double, plus one more group’ ●First person to get three counters in a row (diagonally/horizontally/vertically) wins! Teacher Talk: Extend
for high attainers in Maths… ●Rather than using a die, they can use 2digit number cards or form a 2digit number by rolling a die twice. ●Then calculate
3 x
2digit numbers. Do this in pairs/small groups. ●For each round,
the student who calculates
the highest number gets a point. ●Most points in given the time frame,
wins! © Copyrighted to Mfacts121
