SESSION 2016-17 HHW

SESSION 2016-17
HHW- CLASS IX
Dear Children,
Summer Vacations are synonymous with fun, frolic, getting up late in the morning, playing for longer hours
with friends, going for picnics, exploring new places and watching fun filled shows on television. But dear
children, there is a lot more you can do to make your vacations more interesting, meaning full and full of fun;
along with doing all your heart desires. We are giving you a variety of fun-filled activities and worksheets
which you can do during the noon time. Do them neatly and submit the work to your teachers after the
vacation.
Few guidelines for your parents to make your long summer break fruitful.
1. ―Knowledge is Power‖. Therefore encourage your child to cultivate the reading habit because it not only
enhances the knowledge acquired but also develops the vocabulary, language skills and improves
spellings. And also read to your child because it builds reading skills and increases his/her attention span.
2. Encourage your child to play board games e.g. Chess, Ludo, Carrom etc
3. Communication skills play a pivotal role in grooming the overall personality of the children.
Converse
with your child preferably in English to help him / her get comfortable with the language. Encourage your
child to read children‟s magazines and newspaper etc.
4. Spend quality time with your child engaging him / her in activities based on enhancing his / her powers of
observation and imagination.
5. Revise the syllabus covered in school.
6. Sensitize your child about the rich culture and heritage by watching different informative channels like
„The National Geographic‟, Animal Planet etc.
7. Encourage your child to do the activities himself / herself and appoint a specific time to do homework
everyday.
Wishing all of you a very enjoyable and fun-packed summer break.

the questions asked by the teacher
1. What does the narrator say about himself after visiting the British Museum?
2. How is Harris different from the narrator and George? What character trait of Harris is very obvious in
the chapter?
3. How does the author compare the boat of life to a boat going up and down in the river?
4. Why do the narrator and his friends not want to carry cheese with them for lunch?
5. How do Harris and Jim reach Kingston from Waterloo? How does the narrator poke fun at the working
of Waterloo railway?

with an example of young Stivvings and himself?
7. How does the narrator emphasize that very delicate expensive dresses while on a boating trip can spoil
the fun of the trip?
8. How does the man at Kempton Park try to befool and blackmail Harris and Jim?
9. The narrator considers a tow-line to be a nuisance. Why does he think so?

MATHS




ROLL NO. 1 – 9 :
Prepare a PPT on Euclid‟s Geometry . Correlate its use with real life . The PPT should include origin
,about the mathematician who developed the concept , its growth and extension , use in real life , etc.
ROLL NO. 10 – 18 :
Prepare a PPT on Co-ordinate Geometry . Correlate its use with real life . The PPT should include origin
,about the mathematician who developed the concept , its growth and extension , use in real life , etc.
ROLL NO. 19 – 27 :
Prepare a journal on Real Numbers . The journal should include origin ,about the mathematician who
developed the concept , its growth and extension , use in real life , etc.
ROLL NO. 28 – 35 :
Prepare a journal on Triangles . The journal should include origin ,about the mathematician who developed
the concept ,patterns using congruence of figure , its growth and extension , use in real life , etc.

ROLL NO. 36 – 43 :
Prepare 3 string art patterns on a cardboard , OHP sheet or a thick paper. Draw 3 shapes on a graph paper
by choosing appropriate co-ordinates , colour the figures . Put all the stuff in a file , write the procedure.
Also write and show how Maths and Art are interrelated .
SCIENCE
PHYSICS-Make a project on force and effects of force in our day to day to life. Use A4 size color sheets.
Create an experiment showing how well (or poorly) different structures or materials with stand pressure. How
do different brands of plastic wrap compare when stretched with equal force? How do different brands of duct
or clear tape compare in strength and stickiness? Can you identify what factors cause one to perform better
than another? What type of flooring (carpet, wood, tile, linoleum, etc.) creates the most or the least friction?
(Younger kids might test this by rolling a ball or toy truck over different surfaces. Older kids can use a spring
scale to measure the force of friction. (Roll No.1 to 8)
CHEMISTRY-To study the rate of evaporation-.-Students will observe the rate of diffusion relating to the factors
affecting it like temperature, humidity, wind velocity & surface area. They will prepare a project report on the same
having introduction, theory, observation table , conclusion etc. They can use various search engines related to the same.
(Roll No.9 to 16)
BIOLOGY- PREPARE A PROJECT ON : “Famous Indian Scientist and their contribution in the Field of
Development of Science.” You should elaborate upon the following points while pursuing your project on Indian
Scientist (Any Two)
2.Scientist‟s Contribution. 3. Global Identity by their Inventions. 4.How does it help to the
Nation? (Roll No.17 to 24 )
PHYSICS -Make a model to show the second law of motion. Use toy cars or a dynamic cart to test what
impact increased mass has on velocity. What are the resulting velocities after a moving and unmoving object
collide? What about two moving objects in same or different directions? What type of pulley provides the
highest mechanical advantage for a particular job? (Roll No.25 to 32)
BIOLOGY -Read The following experiment and record observation and conclusion after performing experiment.
To demonstrate the importance of plants stems for the purpose of their survival. (Roll No.33 to last)
Additional information
Stems are one of two main structural axes of a vascular plant and are made up of nodes and internodes. Nodes hold
plant buds, which eventually grow into leaves or flowers. Internodes act as a padding between nodes, keeping them at
distance from one another. Roots are the other main structural axes of a plant.
Stems have several important purposes for plants. They provide support for the elevation of leaves and flowers, pushing
them up into the sunshine to develop growth. They also act as the main artery to transport water from the roots,
essentially feeding the plant and keeping it nourished. Furthermore, stems provide the storage of nutrients that are
essential to the plants growth and healthiness.
Required materials
 2 fresh flowers ,Scissors, Pencil or pen,Journal
Estimated Experiment Time
Less than 5 minutes to set-up, up to 3 days to observe results.
Step-By-Step Procedure
 1. Cut the stem off of one of the flowers using the scissors.
 2. Place your 2 flowers (1 with the stem, 1 without a stem) in a safe place/
 3. After an hour, check the plants and write any noticeable differences in your journal.
 4. Next wait 24 hours and check the plants again, notating the differences in your journal.
 5. Repeat step 4 for an additional 2 days. What is happening to the plants?
Note
You'll need fresh flowers for the best results in this experiment. If you don't have any available in your house, feel
free to hit the fields outside and pick some flowers you know are safe and free from thorns. Be courteous though...
don't pick them from a neighbour‟s garden
