Vision Statement: the Adult Workforce Education Division of Four County Career Center will be a
premier facility offering outstanding programming in high demand occupations to students of all
income and ability levels. These programs will incorporate the latest in technology, will be delivered
by highly qualified instructors, and will offer career pathways, including college credit, to students
who wish to pursue further training.
General Information
start of the second class will not receive a refund.
In emergency cases, a student may re-enroll in the
class within a year without paying additional tuition.
This arrangement must be made with the Adult
Workforce Director at the time of withdrawal.
Certificate of Completion: A certificate of
completion will be presented to all students who
have satisfactorily attended 80% of scheduled
classes (90% for Public Safety).
Prerequisites: Some programs require other
coursework at an additional fee prior to admission.
Please refer to each program’s requirements as
listed in this catalog.
Pre-Entrance Testing: Some classes require
WorkKeys testing before registering. Students
should be prepared to pay a nonrefundable fee of
$75 at the time of the test. Students who do not take
the WorkKeys assessments prior to the start of their
program will be unable to register or attend class.
Some programs have required scores for admission.
Inclement Weather/Class Cancellations: When
the weather affects driving conditions, tune in to
your local radio station to learn if Adult Education
classes have been cancelled. Fog delays also affect
Four County Adult classes, unless your instructor
informs you otherwise.
If Four County is closed during the day, Adult
Education classes are automatically cancelled. If
worsening weather conditions require the closing
of classes, this will be announced by 5:00 p.m.
Cancellation will be announced on the following
stations: WBNO FM 100.9, Bryan; WMTR FM 96.1,
Archbold; WNDH FM 103.1, Napoleon; WDFM
FM 98.1, Defiance; and Channel 13 WTVG, Toledo.
No classes on the following dates: Monday 1/18;
Monday 2/15; Monday 5/30; Monday 7/4.
Transfers/Credit: Students wishing to transfer
between programs within Four County Career
Center Adult Education or to transfer into Four
County Career Center from other institutions
should contact the Department Coordinator of the
program they wish to attend. Students wishing to
transfer academic credit from another institution
should contact the Department Coordinator of the
program they wish to enter.

Accreditation: The Adult Workforce Education
Division of Four County Career Center is
accredited by the Commission of the Council on
Occupational Education, 7840 Roswell Road,
Building 300, Suite 325, Atlanta, GA 30350.

Admission: Admission is open to anyone 16 years
of age or older. Classes are open to all students
regardless of race, color, religion, national origin,
sex or handicap.
Payment of Fees: Course fees are payable at the
first class meeting. For employer billing, students
should have a purchase order issued or present a
letter of authorization at the first class meeting.
Contact Doug Beck, the Director of Adult Workforce
Education, if a payment plan becomes necessary.
Cash, check and VISA® or MasterCard® are accepted.
Textbooks and Supplies: Textbooks, personal
safety equipment and hand tools are not included
in course fees unless otherwise stated. Books are
available to students on the first night of class.
Personal safety equipment and some hand tools are
available for purchase through the school but are
the responsibility of the student.
Confirmation of Classes: Everyone who registers
for a class will receive a written confirmation.
The Adult Workforce Education Division of Four
County Career Center reserves the right to cancel
classes if lacking sufficient enrollment.
Refund Policy: Refunds will be issued from the
Business Office by check only. Refund checks will
be mailed to the student’s home address or to the
appropriate agency. The processing of refunds takes
approximately four to six weeks. Refunds will
automatically be issued for those whose class is
cancelled by the Adult Workforce Education Division
of Four County Career Center. Refunds for textbooks
will be issued only if the book is in good condition
and can be resold as a new book. No used books
will be bought by the Adult Workforce Education
Division of Four County Career Center.
Note: All online Ed2Go courses have an absolute
No Refund policy.
Withdrawals: Students who withdraw before
the first class will receive a full refund. The Adult
Workforce Education Office must receive notice of
the withdrawal prior to the start of class for the full
refund to be issued. Students who withdraw after
the first class will receive a full refund, less a 10%
processing fee. Students who withdraw after the

KeyTrain is the complete interactive training system for the WorkKeys basic workplace skills assessments.
KeyTrain provides a comprehensive learning system for common skills required by all jobs based on the
WorkKeys assessment system KeyTrain is accessible to any Four County Adult student who wishes to
improve scores on the WorkKeys assessment. Access to the system is free. You may use KeyTrain wherever
there is a high-speed Internet connection.

USO Talent Development Network
This program provides talent development products and services from SkillsMAX and ACT. It has been
developed to better serve Ohio businesses and individuals by working collectively to offer assessments,

Registration Process
STEP ONE:
Earn a Career Readiness Certificate
Students must earn a Career Readiness Certificate prior to the
start of class. See page 2 for dates.
The fee for the Career Readiness Certificate is $75 and is payable
at the time of testing. Seats are limited — call to register today!
STEP TWO:
Register for Class
Students who are interested in enrolling and who have scored at
the appropriate level for the program of interest, must fill out the
registration form and mail or bring it to the Four County Career
Center Adult Workforce Education Office along with a $25 nonrefundable fee. The $25 fee will secure a place in the class and
will be applied toward the cost of tuition. Only after we receive
the registration form with the $25 fee will the student be
enrolled in the program.

STEP THREE:
Attend Orientation
Programs will hold individual orientations for students enrolled in
a class. Orientation attendance is mandatory. If you fail to attend
orientation, your seat in the class will be filled by someone on the
waiting list.
Customized Training
Any Adult Education offering may be designed to match the needs and schedules of employers and employees.
Much of the training done through the Adult Workforce Education Division is provided to companies through
customized training programs that have been set up through the Division’s various program areas.
Customized training is an affordable alternative and may be done onsite or at Four County Career Center. By
holding onsite training, programs can be custom-fitted to each workplace, and employees can learn on their
own equipment.
Classes may be scheduled around the clock for second and third shift workers. As in all Adult Education
programs, courses are designed to be hands-on and practical, and are taught by qualified, experienced
instructors with real work experience.

course designed to provide a wide variety of
healthcare professionals the ability to recognize
several life-threatening emergencies, learn to provide
CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe,

BLS CPR Instructor

This course is designed to prepare American Heart
Association instructors to teach the BLS CPR
Programs. The purpose of the course is to provide
instructor candidates with the knowledge and
skills necessary to teach potential BLS providers.
Prerequisites: Candidates must have current BLS
Health Care Provider status and demonstrate a high
level of knowledge and skill performance in BLS
as well as a strong desire to teach. This course will
combine classroom and online instruction.

Heartsaver First Aid is a classroom, video-based,
instructor-led course that teaches students critical
skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid,
choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the
first few minutes until emergency medical services
(EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how
to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and
other first aid emergencies.

objectives for the paramedic profession. There will
be 550 hours in the classroom, 300 hours in clinical
rotation and 250 hours of ride-along time with area
Life Squads. Four County Career Center gained a 5
year accreditation from CoAEMSP and CAAHEP
through 2019, which permits our students to test
National Registry. The Four County Paramedic
course remains fully accredited by the ODPS Division

Four County does not participate in any student loan
programs. If you do not qualify for the Federal Pell
Grant, or are self-pay, monthly payment arrangements
can be made at the time of registration by contacting

plans require a 10% down payment and the first
month’s payment. All accounts must be paid in full
prior to taking the National Registry Exam for EMS
and the State of Ohio Fire exam for fire. Cash, check,
credit or debit cards are accepted. With appropriate
authorization, we will bill your sponsoring fire
department, EMS agency or medical facility.

This classroom, video-based, instructor-led course
uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to
reinforce the important concepts of a systematic
approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support,
PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation
and team dynamics. The goal of the Pediatric
Advanced Life Support Course is to improve the

Cardiovascular Life Support
This is an advanced, instructor-led classroom
course that highlights the importance of team
dynamics and communication, systems of care and
immediate post cardiac-arrest care. It also covers
airway management and related pharmacology.

approved Emergency Vehicle Operations Course. This

Permaculture is a holistic approach to gardening, farming, landscaping, building and living that emphasizes
common sense and self-sustainment.
It is an attempt to integrate several disciplines including; biology, ecology, geography, agriculture,
architecture, and appropriate technology into the ways we farm, garden, raise animals, build structures,
preserve food, and produce and use energy. It draws on the experience of cultures who have found the best
ways to provide for themselves with the resources with which they have to work. This class is for all ages
and applies to anyone from the hobby gardener to the serious corporate farmer.
Topics will include:
• History of Permaculture - How ancient
agriculture was in many ways more advanced
than today
• Biochar - What is it and how to use it
• The Genius Farmer - How an Austrian farmer turned a wasteland into one of the world’s most
productive farms
• Animals that will work for you
• Edible Landscaping - How to turn your yard into a money making operation
• Human health and plants
• Free food and medicine from what most people call weeds
• Multi-purpose plants – mushrooms, bamboo
and willows
• Weeds – guardians of the soil
• Hugelkultur – multi-purpose growing mounds
• How to use nature to your advantage - bugs,
birds, trees and toads
• Growing citrus in the snow
• A garden that you don’t have to till, water,
fertilize and barely weed
• Pink light, music and magnets for plants?
• Purify your water and air both inside and outside
your home with plants
• How to increase profits in your farm, garden or
orchard operation with very simple and nearly
forgotten techniques
• Learn about the wonder plants that can clean up
toxic waste including neutralizing radiation and
eating plastic waste
• Backyard aquaculture - raise fish and vegetable
in less and 100 sq. feet
• The easiest ways to preserve your harvest
• John Lorenzen - how to operate a modern farm
off the energy grid
• Energy is all around you - how to harvest it
