Chapter:5 similarities
Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were civil
rights figures,
They spoke often of Black empowerment over
whites’ schemes that would get Blacks to hate
themselves and lead to feelings of inferiority.
Malcolm X was four years older than King, but
they were both just 39 when murdered: Malcolm
X in New York’s Audubon Ballroom on Feb. 21,
1965, and King in Memphis on a balcony at the
Lorraine Hotel on April 4, 1968.
They spoke repeatedly about the value of Blacks
spending their money in their community to
grow their businesses and build wealth. They
also believed love without economic power was
weak.
Both men talked in speeches of dying for their
causes. Each had received countless death
threats and ultimately believed their demise was
imminent. The two men spoke out for oppressed
people not just in America but all over the world,
and they made clear their opposition to the
Vietnam War.
Chapter 6: lesson learned
You should not do violence to solve
your problem because if you do
you'll probably get arrested. You
should not go against each other
you should work together and make
a bigger team.
