There is no prescribed route, this is your adventure, discover the world your way! Maybe even get lost in wondrous lands along the way! However, there are three main routes: Direct line- Munich to Ukraine, azakhstan, Uzbekistan & Tajikistan. Southern line- Munich to Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan & Uzbekistan. Northern line- Munich to Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan & Tajikistan. There are many variations of these routes and each has its own wonders. However one road we do recommend for all routes is the Pamir Highway in south-east Tajikistan! Charity: Each team will raise a minimum of 500€. 100% of this amount will be divided between Hansel + Gretel (Germany) & Habitat for Humanity (Tajikistan). Both foundations support children and families through their great work! Team vehicles are imported and auctioned in Tajikistan with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity Tajikistan. Volunteering: If you desire, we arrange volunteer placements in Tajikistan, working along side local communities to help renovate and build houses for needy families. Tasks: Teams receive a little black book full challenges along the route. These are not time or place specific but can be completed anywhere, or may not always be possible! Awards will be presented at the finish line celebrations! F.A.Q Here you may find the anything you’ve not had elsewhere. Still can’t find an answer your question?? We’ll have to sack the guy who wrote this! Contact us at [email protected] to ask us anything, or even to simply have a chat about the rally! What makes a team? A team is one vehicle and all its occupants. We recommend a maximum of one person per cylinder! Can I ride a motorcycle? For sure! Riding a motorcycle is a popular way to travel through this region. If you wish to do this, please contact us and we will organise a discounted entry fee for you. Visas, vehicles, carnets... how do I do all this? It is your responsibility to organise your own passport, visas, carnet de passage, vehicle etc. However, we provide an adventure hand book once you join the rally that will give all the detailed information and contacts for organising everything you require. We are always on hand to answer any questions or assist you if you have difficulties. Just ask us! Carbon offsetting As with all Adventure Manufactory rallies, the Tajik Rally is carbon offset. We will calculate your carbon footprint based on distance travelled and make of vehicle. This will be offset through tree planting programmes that not only offset the carbon, but also rebuild local ecosystems through planting a diverse range of local species. IF YOU ARE NOT LIVING ON THE EDGE, YOU ARE SIMPLY TAKING UP SPACE www.adventure-manufactory.com Which visas will I need? This depends on your route and nationality. For Europeans taking the most direct route, you will require visas for Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Others may include Russia and Kyrgyzstan. If you take the southern route through Iran, you will also require a visa for Iran & Turkmenistan. This route will also require a Carnet de Passage for Iran, organised through your national automobile association. Do I need a GPS? Definitely no! There is no need for GPS and teams are encouraged not to use it (especially with navigational instructions!). However, if you are worried about your safety, by all means feel free to use an EPIRB, SPOT Messenger or similar emergency location device. The SPOT also tracks your location and sends pre-programmed messages to a website for your friends to see! What happens to the vehicle? On completion of the rally, your vehicle is handed over to the organisers and is auctioned with all proceeds going to the charitable foundations. You will be notified of the value it raised. If you do not want to action your vehicle (we understand, you may have Stockholm syndrome by the end) or drive it back to Europe, please contact us prior to the start of the rally. How do I enter into this madness? Entries will be opening in April 2011. Places are limited and most fun is had by starting your preparations early (nothing like having your car in the drive way for you to modify and decorate to whet your appetite for the start!). So this year, we are offering an early bird special and allowing teams to pre-register now to guarantee you a position and provide you with the information and particulars to start preparations now! This can be done on the Tajik Rally web page. What happens at the finish line? A spectacular finish grid & podium will be set up in Dushanbe. The finish line event and party is held three weeks after the start and will include the official awards presentation. An official Manufactory Hangout will be open for teams to meet and regale each other with stories while the unwind in the leafy boulevards of Dushanbe. For late finishers: the finish grid and podium will be maintained until all teams arrive, and there will still be a warm welcome back with regular parties and the usual awards for you. However, we may need to move the location if you arrive particularly late. Can I visit the charity projects? Most definitely! We will arrange the opportunity for you to visit project supported by your fundraising at the completion of the rally. We also arrange volunteer placements working along side the local community working on a variety of tasks to build and renovate housing for families in need. Accommodation- where do I sleep? There is no organised accommodation, excluding the night prior to the rally start. When you don‘t know where you are going to wind up at the end of the day, it is a little hard to book ahead! But this is what makes it so good- camping under the stars, cooking dinner over a campfire. Maybe on the banks of a raging river, in the shade of a sand dune or high up in the mountains, or invited to stay with a friendly local family. The choice is yours, just be prepared to camp, although you may want to find the occasional hotel and hot shower! IF YOU ARE NOT LIVING ON THE EDGE, YOU ARE SIMPLY TAKING UP SPACE www.adventure-manufactory.com How do I stay in touch while on route? We provide each team with a website. The easy to edit drag and drop builder is ready for blogs, photos, video, social media and much more! We reserve the right to remove the website at any time if content is considered offensive and not removed on request. However, if it does break down for good, is stolen or is otherwise written off you will have to obtain a Police report confirming this and get customs to acknowledge this by filling in the appropriate page on the Carnet upon exit of the country. Full instructions on how to do this are issued with the Carnet. Am I allowed to film my adventure? Filming is a great way to record your adventure, as your friends may not believe what you have done! If you are intending to make film for commercial broadcast, please notify us before the event so we can discuss the contents and provide permission for broadcast. Do I need Travel Insurance? Yes! Travel insurance is compulsory for all entrants. It is your responsibility to ensure the cover is appropriate for the activities you undertake. Please explain to the insurer exactly what it is you’re about to do before you sign up with them. What can I offer potential sponsors? Teams are encouraged to get sponsorship and it is a good way to cover some or all of your cost! Just make sure the sponsors understand they are only sponsoring your team, not the event. Also make a clear distinction between donations to charity as part of your fundraising efforts and sponsorship of your team. There is plenty you can offer sponsorsbasically exposure in any activity you undertake as part of the rally. You can also offer your sponsors to display their logo on your team website (we’ll give you one), logo space on your car, wear their T-Shirts or other stuff. We’ll give you some useful hints on how to get sponsoring in the adventure hand book once you sign up. What if my car is completely wrecked or written off? All countries outside Europe excluding Turkey & Tunisia require a Carnet de Passage. This means that you are unable to leave your car in the country.
