Math 7 Fractions and Decimals (chapter 54)
Fractions and Decimals - (Math 7)
Write each repeating decimal
using bar notation.
1.) 0.232323…
2.) 9.012222…

Repeating Decimals: Decimals that
have a pattern in the digits that repeat
forever.
Terminating decimals: Anything
that can be written as a fraction with a
denominator 10, 100, 1,000… that
starts with a 1. (Terminate - stops)
Bar Notation: Used instead of writing
out the decimals for a repeating decimal.
_
Such as: 0.444… = 0.4
Changing a decimal to a fraction
steps:
1.)
Say the number mathematically
and write down what you say.
2.)
The place value of the far right
number tells you what the denominator is.
3.)
The numbers to the right of the
decimal tell you what the numerator is.
4.)
The decimal’s whole number
becomes the fraction’s whole number.
5.)
Simplify.
Changing a fraction to decimal
steps:
1.)
Divide the numerator by the
denominator.
2.)
The answer you get is the decimal
value of the fraction.
3.)
If there is a whole number, it goes
to the left of the decimal.
Write each fraction or mixed
number as a decimal.
