Bike Rodeo
Thursday October 3, 2013
Mark
your
calendar!
San Antonio Police Department Safety Patrol Officers will be performing bicycle safety
inspections and students will have the opportunity to compete in a variety of skill competitions.
Children who are riding with training wheels will be scored on the competition only; not the
inspection. All participants are awarded spirit sticks and will be eligible for trophies and awards.
Parents…Please:
• Label your child’s bike and helmet with their name, grade and teacher.
• Drop off your child’s bike before school at the hardtop located next to the amphitheater.
• Do not park in the drive lanes. Please park your vehicle in the parking lot and assist your child.
• Exercise extreme caution and keep safety top of mind during drop off and pick up.

Helmets
Helmets will be included in the Bike Rodeo inspection. Students falling short of the 100 possible
points will be eligible for up to 10 additional points for having a helmet. Acceptable helmets
should have an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) or a Snell Memorial Foundation
sticker on them.
The maximum score for the Bike Rodeo Inspection is 100 points. There is no penalty for not
having a helmet.
The majority of bicycle accidents involving children do not occur with cars. They are the result
of falls. We strongly encourage all children to wear a helmet when they ride because serious
head injuries can occur.
