There are a few special thank yous: • A GIGANTIC MAHALO to the Take Home Tuesday volunteers: Mrs. Goo, Mrs. Parsons, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Schenk, Mrs. Cabanilla, Mrs. Nitz, and Mr. Lyden. Many of these AWESOME volunteers were at our school every Tuesday to stuff the folders with memos, etc. We could not have made this communication process work without their dedication. Thank you all so much for your time, energy and constant support! • Kindergarten would like to thank Sienna and the Naeole-Cardirao `Ohana for the VERY generous donations of lei pupu for our Spring Festival!!! We appreciate you!!! • The 6th grade Enrichment students would like to send out a HUGE mahalo to all the parents and students who supported their Talent Show fundraiser. With your help, they were able to raise $1400 that will be used for painting projects, backpack hooks, JPO cones and wall decals. Here are the enrichment students hard at work: In honor of Teacher Appreciation, Target has started a “thanks a billion” campaign to thank teachers for their hard work and to raise money for the schools. Please help Maunawili by following the directions on the following URL: https://thanksabillion.target.com/ From this URL you can login to your Facebook page to thank a specific teacher from Maunawili. If you specifically thank a teacher through your Facebook page, Target will donate $25 to our school. Campaign end on June 15. Any help to our school would be GREATLY appreciated. ELL Multicultural Family Night The Maunawili cafeteria was filled with the sounds of much laughter, music and delicious smells on Wednesday, April 29th as the ELL families gathered to share their cultures and traditions. Student displays and a variety of languages could be seen and heard from the 9 countries of Brazil, Chuuk, El Salvador, Korea, Mexico, the Philippines, Poland, Samoa and Tonga. Over 70 students, parents, relatives, teachers, staff and community members joined in to try their hand at activities such as Tongan bowling (Poni), craft making of South American carnival balls and Filipino Parols, as well as watching demonstrations of preparing (and tasting!) salsa and guacamole, fresh flour tortillas, and even the skill of coconut husking by a former student. Everyone enjoyed learning so many interesting facts and seeing a variety of cultural items presented by the families from their different countries. Mrs. Fields was deeply touched to be honored by a special Samoan dance called the “Taualuga” by Dale and the Vaimaona Family. The evening was a tremendous success and Mrs. Fields wishes to thank all the ELL families for their presentations and the delicious cultural foods they shared for dinner. We have many new favorites!! The ELL Family Night gets larger and more exciting each year. It is so successful due to the support of all the families and staff who help to arrange the café and clean up at the end of the evening. Mrs. Fields extends her heartfelt thanks to everyone. On a final note, Mrs. Fields congratulates our graduating 6th grade ELL students Moana, Jim and Dale and wishes them much success in Intermediate School. We will miss you and your families very much. Mahalo to you all for a wonderful year! Book Dedication Thank you very much for your generous support with our Book Dedication Program!
