S TA F F P R O F I L E S
Jim Chiolino (Producer) is very happy to have
produced this wonderful show for the Madison
stage. He thanks Betty and this wonderful cast
and crew for realizing this wonderful piece.
Most especially: Thanks, David.
Betty Diamond (Director) is a playwright
and director. Last season she directed Philip
Kan Gotanda’s Yankee Dawg You Die for MTG.
She is delighted to be directing yet another
“impossible to cast in Madison” show. Her most
recent play, Lavinia, premiered in Madison last
season, and then toured the state. She also
had the honor and terror of participating in
The Bricks Theatre’s summer production of
That’s What She Said. Betty wants to thank the
dedicated and creative cast and crew for all their
hard work, and for all the laughs.
David Heuer (Props, Set Dressing, Poster)
suspects The Clean House will be his greatest
challenge this season. He also designed MTG’s
season brochure; pick one up in the lobby!

Madison Theatre Guild
Recently, he had the delight of decorating the
set for Stage Q’s The Boys in the Band. He thanks
Betty, Jim, and the crew/cast for their patience,
assistance, and inspiration.
Tom Littrell (Lighting Designer) is proud to be
lighting his fifth Madison Theatre Guild show
and proud to be a part of the great Madison
theatre community. In a sordid past life he
toured with Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Genesis,
and Paul McCartney. Love to Stacy for her
support and encouragement.
Marie Schulte (Costume Designer) is very
pleased to dress these lovely actors of The Clean
House. Marie also manages the Madison Theatre
Guild’s Costume Shop on Monroe Street. We rent
costumes to schools, other theatre companies,
and the public.
Fred-Allen Self (Set Designer) is thrilled to be
working with MTG on The Clean House. Several
of Fred-Allen’s designs have appeared on the
S TA F F P R O F I L E S
c o n t.
Bartell stages in recent years including The Night
of the Iguana and most recently House of Yes. He
would like to thank his family for supporting him
in his endeavors.
C. John Shimniok (Sound Designer) is excited
by and grateful for this opportunity to help
bring this show to life with such a wonderful and
talented cast and crew.
Gigi Vail (Stage Manager, Choreographer)
continues her work with another comedy by
MTG this season. She has also worked now for
the disability pride festival the last three years to
help out a great group and her community. She
wishes this cast and crew a great run and lots
of laughs. If we can just get the candles right
before we open.
CAST PROFILES
Rosy Bayuk (Lane) recently appeared in Queer
Shorts 10, Christmas with the Crawfords (StageQ),
and Little Women (Edgewood College). She
is delighted and grateful to be part of this
MTG production. She thanks her wonderful
castmates and crew, and sends muchas
smoochas to Ken.
Laura Varela (Ana). This is Laura’s second MTG
show, the first playing Dorothy Parker in Red,
Hot, & Cole. She has also appeared in numerous
StageQ productions, among them as Charlotte/
Clem in Ghost of a Chance, Dyke Tracey in Queer
Shorts 7, and Dr. Emma Brookner in the The
Normal Heart (OUTCast/StageQ).
Edric Johnson (A Man / Charles) is thrilled to be
performing with such talented women. Special
thanks to Betty, Gigi, and the crew. He was last
seen as Alan in The Boys in the Band (StageQ).
Other favorite roles include Uncle Peck in How I
Learned to Drive (MTG), Clay in The Pain and the
Itch (Strollers), Bobby in The Arsonists (Mercury),
and Ben Weeks in The Normal Heart (StageQ).
Edric can be next seen as Starcat in Psycho Beach
Party (StageQ) running February 12-27 on the
Bartell Theatre’s Evjue Stage.
Isabella Virrueta (Matilde) is excited to take the
stage in her first MTG production. Isabella has
been fortunate to work with various Madison
theater groups. Most recently she has worked
with Middleton Players Theatre, VACT, Mercury
Players Theatre, OUT!Cast Theatre, and Fermat’s
Last Theater Company. Recent roles include:
Fairy Godmother (Shrek the Musical, Tanya (Bare:
a Pop Musical), Agamemnon/Andromache
(Troilus and Cressida). Isabella is a graduate of
the University of Wisconsin-Madison Theatre
program. She would like to thank all those who
helped with the Portuguese, her mom and
dad who told her to stay fluent in Spanish (it is
paying off!), and her fiancé and friends for their
continued support. Enjoy the show!
Judy Kimball (Virginia) is a Madison actress
who is very happy to be part of this production
of The Clean House. Recent roles with Madison
Theatre Guild have included “B” in Three
Tall Women, Lotte in Lettice and Lovage, and
the mother of a teenager with a minimalist
composer growing out of her head in Shorts on
the 2nd Floor.
D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E
Sarah Ruhl’s plays aren’t easily categorized. They are realistic. Until they aren’t. They are funny. Until
they aren’t. Her plays are, if you will, messy.
What is The Clean House about? So many things. Life. Death. Love. Hate. Friendship. Family.
Forgiveness. So many things. It’s not tidy. In fact, the play is about mess. Art is messy. Life is messy.
Love is especially messy. And Ruhl suggests that those who can’t live with the mess will have a less
than happy life.
I hope you enjoy the show as much as I have enjoyed the joyfully messy creative process of bringing
it to the stage.
