Dear OLA families:
Happy Catholic Schools Week! During this week each year, Catholic schools around the country
take the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful things we do each and every day. It is an opportunity for us to “show-off” a bit, and let everyone else know what we already do: Catholic
schools are the best of the best!
It’s been awhile since I’ve written to you, so there is much to include in this letter.
Here goes:
Effective immediately, we will no longer administer medication of any kind, to any student, at
any time, even with a doctor’s note. The only exceptions to this new policy are inhalers, and in
the event of an emergency, epi pens. The nurse may, of course, continue to dispense medications
on the days she is in the building (typically Mondays and Tuesdays). Otherwise, if a child requires medication, a parent/grandparent/guardian must come to school to administer. I strongly encourage you to contact your local school district, and elected officials to demand a fulltime school nurse under the policy of “equitable participation” – in other words, we should be
entitled to the same services as the local public schools.
Thank you, to the vast majority of you, for continuing to be cautious when driving on campus. Unfortunately, a small handful are still blatant in their ignorance, and disrespect of our established
policies, and one another. Please feel free to write down license plate numbers, and car makes
and models of the habitual offenders and give them to me. I will actively be on the lookout for
these folks, and will publicly call them out for putting our children in danger. Also, you should
absolutely take note of bus numbers/municipalities, and call to report bus drivers who drive
dangerously on campus, and on the local streets.
We are still in need of lunch moms/dads, particularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. If
you are ready, willing, and able to help out please contact Mrs. Merkle at [email protected]
I am so happy that so many of you are willing to volunteer for various activities here at OLA. However, as you know, both Pennsylvania State law, and Archdiocesan regulations require you to
have certain child protection clearances. Mrs. Magerr, our Safe Environment Coordinator, will
be conducting 2 Protecting God’s Children trainings here at OLA. They will be held on Sunday,
February 12, and Sunday, March 12, from 1:00 to 3:30 PM. Please go to
www.childyouthprotection.org to setup a profile and/or register. You may also contact Mrs.
Magerr at [email protected] for more information.
I hope by now you have all had a chance to check out our new website. We are very proud of it! If

A very important reminder: Friday, February 3 is Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day. Dismissal is at
11:30 AM. There will be NO CARES this day. The building will close shortly after dismissal.
Please make sure all children are picked up on time.e
And finally, some thanks….Thank you to Home and School for so many things…the funding for
the new website; providing refreshments for our Open House (which was a great success, by the
way); delicious ice cream sundaes on Student Appreciation Day; and for being a constant support to me and all of us here at OLA. We are so lucky to have such a great group!
On behalf of all of us, we can’t thank Mrs. Amanda Kirshner enough for volunteering to give free
chair massages to our faculty and staff as a sign of appreciation. She set up shop in the Faculty
Room, and spent over 4 hours here. Everyone raved about how great they felt after seeing Mrs.
Kirshner. I can, with great confidence, recommend her services. She’s at the Hand & Stone on
West Chester Pike in Newtown Square. 484-427-7090
I would also like to thank Mr. Ward, Mr. Camp, Mr. Kirshner, and Mr. Finnegan for volunteering to
spend a day here at OLA as a “Dad on Duty.” They all seemed to love the experience, and our
children loved having them here.
In closing, I offer you my sincerest gratitude for continuing to be such great “cheerleaders” for me, for
our teachers, for our students, and for the OLA experience, in general. You have been most gracious in
accepting my changes, supporting my efforts, and expressing your thanks to all of us.

OLA HOME & SCHOOL ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL WINE & CHEESE BINGO
Join us Friday, March 10, 2017 from 7:00-11:00PM for our annual Wine & Cheese Bingo. Doors will open at 6:00
PM. Tickets are $25.00 which includes wine, beer, snacks, and desserts, along with multiple rounds of bingo for cash
prizes. Bingo players are welcome to bring their own food and drink for their table.
Advance ticket sales are being offered to OLA school families starting Monday, February 6th. Ticket sales for the
general public will begin on Sunday, February 12th. So get your ticket first as this event is always a SELL OUT!!
We will be raffling off our tombola baskets and there will be a 50/50 drawing. Last year’s 50/50 winner took home
over $2,000.00!! This is a great opportunity to have a fun night out with family and friends and support OLA.
