Anadarko Land Grant Timeline
The Land Grant dates back to President Abraham Lincoln’s
administration, which granted railroads, including Union Pacific
Railroad, both land and mineral rights to encourage investment in a
transcontinental railway.
1862: The Pacific Railways Act granted railroad companies, including Union
Pacific Railroad (UPRR), land and mineral rights from Missouri River to the
Pacific Ocean. Land was granted in checkerboard pattern in 10 one-square
mile blocks on both sides of the tracks (20-miles each side, encompassing
several million acres).
1987: Champlin Petroleum Company changed its name to Union Pacific
Resources Company.
1995: Union Pacific Corporation spun off Union Pacific Resources Group, Inc.
(formerly known as Rocky Mountain Energy Company) as a separate and
independent company. At the time of the spin-off, Union Pacific Resources
Company, Upland Industries Corporation and Union Pacific Land Resources
Corporation were subsidiaries of Union Pacific Resources Group, Inc.
2000: Anadarko Petroleum Corporation acquired Union Pacific Resources
Group, Inc., causing all of the subsidiaries to become subsidiaries of
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, including Union Pacific Land Resources
Corporation, which held the Land Grant lands.
2002: After two name changes, Union Pacific Land Resources Corporation
became Anadarko Land Corp.
20 Miles
1971: Union Pacific Railroad Company undertook a reorganization, at which
time it created Union Pacific Corporation as a holding company for several
subsidiaries, including Champlin Petroleum Company, Rocky Mountain Energy
Company and Upland Industries Corporation. Union Pacific Land Resources
Corporation was created as a subsidiary of Upland Industries Corporation,
and Union Pacific Railroad Company conveyed all of its interest in the Land
Grant lands to Union Pacific Land Resources Corporation.
