Individually OR with a partner:
1. Select a story from the following list:
“American History”
“Gift of the Magi”
“The Man to Send Rain Clouds”
“Old Man of the Temple”
“The Necklace”
“Blues Ain’t No Mockingbird”
“The Invalid’s Story”
2. Read the story CLOSELY, paying attention to the plot, the narrator and narrative point of
view, characterization, symbols, & irony and use your Interactive Note guide to assist
3. Create a poster that contains the following:







The setting and narrative point of view of the story
The central conflict of the story
A plot line that details the story
The theme or central message of the story
A character chart that lists the characters and their major TRAITS
An illustration AND explanation of a major symbol in the story
A list of at least three instances of irony in the story labeled with the appropriate
type of irony.
Your poster MUST contain all of the information stated above, the information MUST be
accurate, and your poster should be COLORFUL, CREATIVE, and NEAT.
You will have three full class periods to complete this assignment, so use your class time
wisely. Your poster is due on Tuesday, September 15th.
