Chris Jordan 253.719.7613 [email protected] Chris Jordan employs a vivid color palette and his experience as a graffiti artist and graphic designer to “spread the love of learning by spreading the love of art.” His use of line creates a thought-provoking piece of art that displays a sharp yet layered composition. Jordan’s style can be described as youthful, bold, and exciting. Jordan attended Tacoma School of the Arts and is a member of Fab-5, a non-profit arts-based organization that empowers underserved youth by guiding them in their creative potential through a variety of different art forms such as dance, music, visual arts, and literary arts. He is an adjunct artist at Stewart Middle School in Tacoma and teaches Digital Visual Communication. He has also taught for Metro Parks. In collaboration with Safe Streets, Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, and the Northwest Leadership Foundation, Jordan participated in the Youth Against Violence Mural Project, a mural created with input about the community’s experience with violence. In addition, Jordan was a central part of a team that designed and painted a mural for Intel’s DuPont campus. Mural completed in Tacoma Murals Project SVDP, 2010 Aerosol and latex on concrete, 96’ x 10’ Kenji Stoll, Chris Jordan, Alex Schelhammer, Alex Williams, Christian Vicente, Ernesto Zamora, Tiffanny Hammonds, and Kisha Rardin This colorful mural depicts a scene of community, unity, and giving. With outstretched helping hands at its center, this mural is a fitting depiction of the charitable and giving attitude of St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. Lead artists Kenji Stoll and Chris Jordan mentored young muralist of varying experience levels in the creation of this beautiful piece of public art. Inspiration for the mural stemmed from St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store’s model of generosity. The mural’s narrative is strong and poignant, telling the story of a journey from hopelessness to success and those that help and support along the way. “It goes from left to right, moving from cool colors reflecting where the community is, through to warm colors saying where we want to be - a better place,” says Jordan. The design moves from green freeways and streets through yellows to orangey-pink crowds of people and a shining Mount Rainier. Through vibrate colors and a strong narrative inspired by charity this mural encompasses the essence of St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.
