Sanskrit and Chanting Sunday, March 15th– 10:30am-1pm "Join us as we begin to dive into the journey of understanding the language that these yoga practices are steeped in.” - with Beth-Aime Labonte, E-RYT Sanskrit is the language upon which yoga was built; from ancient spiritual texts, to mantras, to asana names. Using Sanskrit is a little like honoring an ancestor. This ancient Indian language is believed to date back to the 2nd millennium B.C., when knowledge was handed down through the generations verbally; a method called shruti parampara. This workshop is an introduction into the journey or understanding the language that these yoga practices are steeped in from breaking down asanas (postures) names to better understand how Sanskrit is thread throughout the physical practice as learning the proper pronunciations of the eight limbs of Yoga, the 7 major Chakras in the body, as well as an introduction to the practice of chanting a few select mantras. This class is a must for the yoga teacher! Students will leave with the tools to bring a mantra practice to their existing asana practice and possibly with the curiosity to dive deeper into this beautiful ancient language in Beth-Aime's Sanskrit and Chanting Level I & II session classes. Cost: Early Bird rate $60 by March 1st; after March 1st cost is $70 Beth-Aime Labonte, E_RYT 500, owner of Living Yoga studio in Concord, NH and one of Yoga NH's Teacher Training Directors, has begun to travel to Mysore, India to study Ashtanga Yoga at the KPJAYI since January 2010.
